Hiya
I have just noticed one of my reeds is so warped I'm surprised it didn't break! I was wondering if there was anything that can be done to either prevent or repair this?
Thanks, Rosemary14

What do you mean by "warped" exactly?
Is it sort of 'wavy' or 'crinkle cut' at the tip... and does that go away as you wet it and play it? Or is it just distorted?
Do you put your reeds away in a holder that keeps them flat when you finish playing?

Sax reeds wrinkle then 'settle down' or at least they have for me so far unsure.gif

Get A reed case for them, so it drys them out and also keeps them straight !!

With oboists a reed case is something we automatically own. In fact, even student oboes are supplied with a proper reed case. I've never understood why the same hasn't happened with clarinet and sax. dry.gif

The reed is just wavy at the end, and stays wavy. It's impossible to play. I'm very disorganised with reeds- They're all over the house, although most are in some sort of cover, like the ones that come with vandoren reeds.

Hey, I think you should have a look at this site

Reed Care Products

Look at the Reed GUARDS (these keep your reed straight) and also Reed CASES (these provide a safe place to store reeds)

looks good, but £30 for a reed case?!? I think I'll retreat to the garage and make my own!

Hey Rosemary14, You dont need to a £30 one as that is a ridiculaous amount to pay. Take a look at the La Voz IV Reed Guard for alto it is the 14th item down. It holds 4 reeds and dry them out and prevents them from warping and costs £2.98. That item though is for Alto Sax reeds (not sure what sax you got) the tenor reeds one is below. You will propbably be able to find the same thing for your clarinet reeds aswell

My parents wouldn't be too happy about that... Even better to burn it, but they won't let me do that either mad.gif

Aww, what a shame. I usually end up doing the cooking if at all possible, and accusing of trying to burn everyones dinner when those dumb sausages make the fire flare up!

I am the one now who has to prepare everything, such as making the kebabs and salads etc. But i am not allowed to cook it mad.gif

I think you're right Ben... very simple and effective the La Voz and cheap.
The Vandoren reed case contains some dessicant so it is 'humidity controlled' - it says - bit more expensive around £12
