Hi there, The new syllabus comes in to effect in the new year but you can use the current pieces in the Spring Exams (Period A) next year but not after that.
Best of luck!

This is relevant to one of my pupils at the moment, but it is something I've never done before - i.e. using the old syllabus in the following spring. I'm scared to enter him this time round as I don't think he's ready. This is probably a silly question, but is the examiner at all likely to be any tougher with candidates still using the old syllabus?

Hi Patricia,
No, the examiners are no tougher on pupils doing the old syllabus.
Best of luck to you and your candidates!

A good thing to remember is that you can't mix and match the two syllabi in the Spring. You have to do either all 05-06 pieces or 07-08 pieces.
It's much better since the AB changed the piano syllabus every other year, rather than every year.

That's if you're in the UK - overseas I think the regulations are slightly different. Best to check if you're not in the UK.

Thanks, Bigsymusic! I just wondered if there might be something psychological about it; i.e. obviously been on this a while, still not great, etc.

Not necessarily so though is it. Someone might have only been working on exam pieces a short time but preferred the 'old' syllabus.

That is what I'm actually doing.

Me too
I did look at the new but decided as I already had invested some time in the old that it was worth staying with it.
