Full Version: Shock! Horror! I've Just Had My Hair Cut
Forums > ABRSM > Forums Cafe
andante_in_c
I've just come back from an afternoon at the hairdressers. My heading-towards-waist-length locks are no more. sad.gif I've gone back to shoulder-length, and, what is more, I've had highlights put in (twice, as there was a bit that didn't blend in properly first time).

I'll probably wake up tomorrow, look in the mirror, and scream. ph34r.gif laugh.gif

Congrats! biggrin.gif
There is no harm from having a new look every once and while! wink.gif

Congratulations biggrin.gif - that was very brave of you. When I had my, then long, hair cut I had to have it cut shorter over a period of time - didn't have the nerve to do it all in 1 go.. dry.gif . It takes a while to get used to - you brush it & you end up brushing where your hair used to be but isn't anymore laugh.gif

How long was your hair Andrea?! Can't imagine you with long hair now!

What made you decide to have it cut Andante?

Very long until about 2 years ago..... biggrin.gif . Mine is much better short...Could do with doing something about all the grey bits though smile.gif

Well done, I know it takes some nerve!! My hair's very long at the moment and I'm thinking about getting it cut just below shoulder length, my cousin who is almost identical to me has hers that length,so I figured if it looks good on her it'll look good on me!! But I ask people what they think about it and half of them say yeah go for it and half say noooo you musn't!!
nicki_flute
Go for it. My hair used to be quite long, and I much prefer it shorter. If you don't like it, it'll always grow back smile.gif

Hmm thing is mine probably won't to the length it is now, I keep thinking it'll stop growin soon but it hasn't yet ph34r.gif

I'd say go for it still smile.gif

Cool.

I have soooo got to get my hair cut - it hasn't been done for over a year!! It's out of control!!
jo.clarinet
Ooh! I look forward to seeing it in at Recorder Orchestra in September - will I recognise you?!
I haven't been to a hairdresser for over 20 years, mainly because I can't BEAR the way they chat inanely to you while they do your hair laugh.gif ! My hair tends to grow till I think - Right, that's enough - and then I get the scissors and cut off a few inches. My husband tells me if I've left any uneven bits, but usually I manage fairly OK. No styling involved, though!

I hate the small talk which goes on in hairdressers. She was asking about my summer and I could have easily said loads of stuff, but I didn't!

Thanks for all the support, guys.

My new hairdresser (shop only opened a few weeks ago, 10 minutes walk from home) is an ex-jazz/cabaret singer, so her brand of hairdressers' talk was something else! I heard all about Engelbert Humperdinck (the crooner rather than the composer), Tommy Cooper and Matt Monro. Very little of the 'Are you going out tonight' type of conversation. And then she gave me a lift home because it was raining. smile.gif

I'd much prefer to sit in silence myself - I can entertain myself with my own thoughts very well! laugh.gif

I've got to have my hair cut this week sad.gif It comes half way down my back but because I haven't had it cut in about 2 years the ends are looking a bit straggly. The problem is my mum has a conspiricy with the hairdresser so I'll tell her I just want an inch off to tidy it up and I'll end up with a foot shorter!
I wouldn't ind doing somethink new with it but being a ballet dancer - the longer and straighter the better. I'm think I'm going to get my sister to stand guard behind me and keep an eye on just how short the hairdresser starts cutting my precious hair sad.gif
nicki_flute
My hairdresser was the opposite, she was always afraid to cut too much off.
andante_in_c
Mine started by saying 'Have you decided how much you want off, because I'm not going to colour all that length', and then when I said 'shoulder length' she took a pair of scissors and just lobbed six inches off straight away. ohmy.gif

That would be more reassuring! My hairdresser used to go to school with my mum so once i've sat in the chair my hair is in their hands huh.gif sad.gif

LOL, what a cool cake!

Well done Andante - very brave.

I rarely go to hairdressers - they usually get all excited over long curly hair and start doing things I do not want mad.gif

I couple of years ago I cut 12 inches off my hair to send to a charity - it was really weird going from really long to quite short all in one go! ohmy.gif

Have you sent it off yet? wink.gif
sarah-flute
No... ph34r.gif

Well I have to sent it to the US and I am just not that organised laugh.gif
nicki_flute
LOL, where is it then Sarah?!
sarah-flute
In my desk laugh.gif

The cut's fine, thanks, noodle. It's similar to how it was last time I had it cut - it's still long, but shoulder- rather than nearly waist-length. I'm still not completely sure about the colour, but I definitely look younger, which can't be bad. That's one reason I took the plunge - husband's hair hasn't changed colour at all and I'm fed up with looking nine years older than him instead of nine weeks. smile.gif

My Mum once called a friend, to be told by her husband that she had "gone for a facelift somewhere". But despite this, she was still perfectly recognizable the next day... blink.gif

Sorry, I've only just seen this Andante. Congratulations on your courage. I'll bet your hair looks wonderful, and you'll soon get used to the colour. You could, of course, like my granddaughter, experiment each week with a different colour tongue.gif
