Zoltan Kodaly was a musician and composer from the country now known as Slovakia. He played the violin and sang as a boy, and was very interesred in the folk music that he heard then. He became interested in music education and developed ideas for teaching music to children. A lot is spoken about the Kodaly method but it is not so much one method as a set of ideas that he developed. He died in the 1960's and much of his music is influenced by folk song. He was a little like Cecil Sharp in that he travelled around making recordings of folk musicians and their music. There are some Kodaly experts here who will add much more I think.
