Does anyone play in a consort that specializes in mediaeval dance tunes? If so please tell all. I don't really mean the sort where one dresses in phoney long clothes and then plays on plastic recorders! mad.gif

We have an Early Music Festival at our church which consists of a weekend (well, Thursday - Sunday it was this year) of concerts and a festival evensong. I have to say until recently I wasn't a big fan but I'm starting to 'get' it now, even if it's not my favourite period. It was quite fun to have a go on the harpsichord anyway! Why are you asking? Do you just want to have a general chat about it? smile.gif (Because I can't really help you there.... I'm certainly no expert!! ph34r.gif)

I am asking because I thought that an early music forum might be a good idea. I love music from the mediaeval age, but not when performed on fake instruments such as clarinets and plastic recorders or even by baroque style recorders. There was some response to my earlier idea of a forum and I suppose I just wanted to test the waters to see if there would be any replies to a new early music topic. I used to play in an early music group where we tried to be asa authentic as reasonably possible, playing copies of instruments of the correct period, and singing in what we believed to be a correct manner. We had an excellent reader with us too, and he used to speak in Chaucerian English during rehearsals which was highly amusing!
