Hi there,

Am slowly coming to the realisation that I can't stick at my boring desk job for the rest of my life and am researching music related careers!

I am very interested in finding out more about Music therapists - how do you train to be one? I've looked on the Nordoff Robbins website - looks like this could be a long term goal for me as I don't even have a degree which is one of the requirements.

Anyone out there a therapist already - what can you tell me about it?

Thank you!

This is one of the first links from google, though I'm sure there will be many more like it! Looks like a music degree with postgrad. training to get in. One of my friends was interested in doing this at one point, though she keeps changing her mind! There should be a link at the bottom of the page on the link (?!) which goes to a page explaining about the job, but yes it does look a bit like a long term goal unless you already have a music degree! smile.gif Good luck with researching jobs though, hope you find something you like!

Sorry I can't help but my Maths teacher thought I should be a music therapist. smile.gif

The headquarters of the Music Therapy Association (or that kind of name) is in Churchill Road, East Barnet, Herts. Perhaps you could locate them on Google for some information. Good luck

Thanks for the replies and info. I have been trawling the internet all day (supposed to be working wink.gif ) and have found tons of stuff.

Looks like its definitely going to be a long long long term ambition for me as you need a degree and need to be diploma level in your first instrument and around grade 5 piano/keyboard.

Off to check the Open Uni website now to look into their degrees!!!

Still, if you do a music degree anyway, I think you'd be that standard by the end - so it's something that will happen at the same time rather than do a degree, then have to get to diploma level afterwards! smile.gif
