hi guys just looking for some suggestions for flute pieces that may be suitable for competitions and auditions.
At the moment thinking of:
Prokofiev sonata mvt 4
Bartok Suite Paysanne Hongroise
Rousell Jouers de flute
Not sure what else, theres lots out there but alot doesnt sound that nice to me. Can you suggest pieces you might have heard and thought was a great piece? looking for Diploma standard pieces or higher.
thanks

i'm very fond of the burton sonatina at the moment, the 1st movement is on the grade 8 syllabus and the 2nd movement is relatively easy ......... but the 3rd movement ....... a great chance to show off your double tonguing. It's an interesting piece from the accompaniment point of view so i think your listener will be very well entertained.

I see you enjoy 20th century music... that's great... Berkeley Sonatina, Mathias Sonatina, Martinu Sonata... but I love the French repertoire, such as Gaubert, Taffanel... even Polenc Sonata & Debussy Syrinx or Honegar... So much choice!
If you are looking for technical brilliance, how about Rodrigo's Concerto Pastorale.

The Widor Suite's a good piece to play and enjoyable to listen to! The Hue Fantaisie is a good piece for showing off, tone colour, everything!
Just as a word of advice, it's far best to go for something you know you could definately play and have no worries about than try to show off and it all go wrong! If there are any doubts in rehearsals, just imagine what pressure and nerves will do to it. I learnt this the hard way!
Good luck for anyone doing conservatoire/uni auditions!

... if you don't already know the Passacaglia by Rhene-Baton, you must hear/play it. Also the sonatina by Chaminade.
Let us know what youe decide!

Lol thanx....i think the Rodrigo is probably beyond everyone on this forum unless theres some amazing graduates around! I'm sure the Rodrigo is one the most challenging pieces in the flute repetoire!
