I'm currently teaching 5 pupils privately absolutly love it!

What exactly do you need to be a peri? is there any age restrictions etc.?

I am doing my dip on clarinet in the winter, thats all i would be teaching, is it enough.

Although i would love to teach music full-time (in schools) i don't want to go back into full time education for 5 or so years before i can do it, am i just hoping for something that isn't going to happen?

Any help would be apriciated.

Phone your local Music Service they will be able to tell you whether you have the right qualifications.

I think it varies between authorities what they expect but you've nothing to loose by trying.

Good Luck

Thankyou, rang the local music service.

They've told me to get diploma, continue with my own private teaching practise, do CTABRSM.

They also told me they only really set people on who are older than about 21 so got a couple of years to do it all in!

Good luck.

Also some schools round here do their own thing and have peris in without getting them from the local music service, so it might be worth keeping your ear to the ground and "networking" to see whether there are any schools like that in your local area.

Hmmm I know one of the staff employed by our music service isn't 21, he's also only on the second year of his music degree course. Don't get me wrong he knows his stuff and was really helpful to my eldest daughter. Try your neighbouring authority if you have one.

Thanks again for all your advice! will try neighbouring service.

It does, and not only that it can also vary between schools too. Certainly it's worth looking into different music services/schools to see what their requirements are.
