It has been many years since I have owned a wing spinet. (It was sold to raise the deposit when buying my cottage) and Ihave been making do with a Yamaha PSR76. The harpsichord sound on that was reasonable but now the thing is showing signs of wear and tear and needs to be replaced. I cannot afford a harpsichord so that is not an option. I will almost certainly get another Yam but am not sure of the harpsichord voices on any other models. Has any one any information please? A model with more than one harpsichord voice would be good if such a thing is made. Please do not advise me to but the real thing or to get a clavinova. Both out of my budget at the moment.

The only electronic instrument I've experience of is also a Yamaha, and an oldish model to boot- the harpsichord function on that was passable. Having hunted a bit on the net, I've only found things of about clavinova price- one site (Roland) gives a wonderful technical spec. for their electronic equivalent, including seven temperaments and a sensation similar to playing the real thing....but no prices. The Yamaha I have played on was second-hand....would a second hand clavinova perhaps fit the bill, even if a new one is beyond the budget?
aargh. just found the other thread on digital keyboards, and you've thought of second hand already, sorry.

I may well simply replace my old Yam. The harpsichord sound on that was good, and having the ability to tune it up or down t the press of a button came in very handy when accompanying recorders in the cold weather. I just wondered if Yam had produced one with more choice yet, but cannot find out much on any websites. It was very portable too and I need something light.

After much searching I have bought a new Yamaha DGX 220, a new stand an adaptor and paid carriage of only £9 yesterday, and it arrived this morning at 8.30. It wil do the job well, having four quite distinct and different harpsichord voices, a clavichord and a tuning function that enables me to play at 415 as well as concert pitch(s). The touch sensitivity is far better that my former aged Yam and I am well pleased, especially as it cost only £225. We don't have different temperements but otherwise it was a good purchase. It is so much nicer to accompany recorders with a harpsichord than a piano for certain pieces, and comes without the tuning problems too.

It even has a very passable lute effect! Happy me!

Interesting to hear you're pleased with the DGX 220 petra. I've been thinking of getting a keyboard to "play with" rather than (or at least before) going the whole hog and buying a digital piano and the DGX 220 was one of the options that came up (I suspect given the price from the same website you used). Still considering and dithering - I'll either go ahead in the next couple of weeks or put it off for another year or so.
