i feel so dumb posting this...but i need help on theory Qs as my teacher is ill now...

sad.gif i need her help

1) When rewriting melodies, how to we change a dotted minim from a 3/4 time to a 9/8 time without changing the musical effect?

2) In 9/8 time, how do i group 3 quavers when the first 2 quavers are tied? or i cant?

3) in 12/8 time, how do i group 6 quaver rests in a row? can i use 1 minim rest and 1 crotchet rest to make 3 beats?

4) what rest can i place in front of a 3 quaver beat in a 12/8 time? because it is a nine beat rest? huh.gif

thanks so much to whoever that can help!

im thinking so ill do 1 at a time!

1) is a dotted minim tied to a dotted crotchet
saxlover
2) in a 9/8 bar if all the notes are quavers then there will be 3 notes in 3 gropus-if that makes sense?! so even if the 1st 2 are tied you still group them the same just tie the 1st 2 notes(i think)!!

3) use a dotted minim rest

4) a dotted minim rest then a dotted crotchet rest

hope this helps

and if im wrong someone please correct me!

Instead of a dotted minim rest, use a minim and crotchet rest. Instead of a dotted crotchet rest, use a crotchet rest and a quaver rest.

Don't make things more complicated than they have to be

You need to remember that 6/8 is 2 ina a bar... 9/8 is 3 and 12/8 is 4.
The beat is a dotted crotchet.

i dont understand, i thought if it was in compound time it had a dot after it

Indeed, but I've yet to see someone lose marks doing it the simple way. I know that sounds stupid, but it's best to keep things simple at that level
