I am preparing two pieces for an audition, but one of the pieces i am doing, has a 6 bar rest in it! I need to know what to do during this, do i just wait for 6 bars as though there is a piano (there is no accompaniment during the auditions) and then carry on; or do I just carry on as though there is no 6 bar rest?? Im so confused! rolleyes.gif dry.gif

In my audition I had this problem, but my teacher told me to skip the rests and just keep playing. If you don't mind me asking, what are you auditioning for?

I would ask the person who is auditioning you what they would prefer before you begin the piece. It MAY be fine with him/her just to carry on, but I don't think that you should assume this - they may be wanting to check that you are OK at counting rest bars and coming in again at the right time!

Alternatively, you could look at the piano part (assuming there is one) and pick out the main melody and play that.

But I would ask, just to be on the safe side.

Reading an examiners' report on the music gcse, I found that the moderators for the performance paper sometimes complained of candidates heard counting out long rests on the recordings... lol
I think you should ask the people auditioning you.

Call & ask them. It will be safer to do so. Good luck for your audition.
