Welcome to the forums! I'm afraid the 26th November event happened last year, but I'm sure there'll be more Market Harborough playdays in the future smile.gif

See the 2008 concert calendar for details of events happening soon. There'll a Market Harborough event on the 3rd May.

There was a Market Harborough event on 3rd May... smile.gif

The next one is 3rd November (just under a fortnight away, starting at 1pm-ish), feel free to send me a PM sax kitten if you want to have further details. smile.gif

I'm new, so I don't know how these things work, but is it acceptable to come along and just listen? I'd be too scared to attempt playing anything at the moment.

Yes, it is, but this is a very old (2006) thread. For current events, go to the Forums Events sub-forum, which can be found as a link from the General Music Forum. smile.gif

Welcome to the forums Dumbarton Oaklet welcome.gif

What do you play? If your instrument is transportable (eg not an organ biggrin.gif), then I would suggest taking your instrument with you, and then if you feel like joining in at some stage, you've got your instrument ready. I was very apprehensive about playing for the first time, but it soon passes and I've been to lots of events since smile.gif

Have a look at the first few posts of the "Forum Concerts and Other Events" thread which is pinned at the top of the Forum Events sub-forum in General Music - they will give you an idea as to what happens smile.gif

I'm so sorry not to have noticed how old the thread was! Thanks for the advice about current information.

Was a pain of a trip for me but might consider it as a one off just for the nostalgia. dry.gif

If there's enough interest, I'll coordinate it with barry and possible attendees, and chat some more on here before fixing a date.

Any feelings re these dates?

Having been away from the Forums for some time ... have I missed anything in the East Midlands or is there insufficient interest?

Yes : it went off in a slightly different direction - we now have a full blown Market Harborough Orchestra, with people from across the local area (including some forum members), and our first concert is this Saturday - see the thread sbhoa's provided the link to for more details. smile.gif

Hi Lois,

I'm new to the forum, and have just had a browse through some of the forum events that take place throughout the UK, the West Midlands and surrounding areas in particular. Having never attended any events to date, can you give me some details of what the event involves, and what grade would be acceptable, as I've only just returned to my violin after about 10 years, when I reached the grade 3/4 level, and I have now picked up at the grade 2/3 level.

I recently began to have lessons again, but would also like to attend events that feature mature beginners such as myself, so that I can build up my confidence again. I noticed that there is an event scheduled for 6th November in Birmingham, which would be ideal for me, but are there any other events or groups within my area that you're aware of? It would also be useful to know exactly what the event involves, the application process, costs etc.

Many thanks for your help (or any other helpful forum member)

This is the webpage for last year's event : this year's is likely to be similar. There's a thread about last year's event in the events forum.

Hi, I am a beginner sax player - at the ripe old age of 48!!!! Would love to play with someone! Would I be suitable for the day in Birmingham. If so, where is the form I need to complete? Sorry just trying to work my way around the forum. Thanks clare

Sadly there won't be a Birmingham event this year but keep an eye on the events board for something else you may be able to get to. Most concert type events have no minimum playing level and beginners are very welcome. Playdays where it's like a half or all day band session sometimes advise something like about grade 2 as a minimum playing level but organisers are usually willing to advise on an individual basis and will do their best to cater for as many needs as possible.
