The Birthday Fanfare was really unique, and I can't really describe it, apart from it blended very well. It is a new commission for the Phailharmonia having played for 10 years at the DMH in Leicester. As a member of the SoundBoard, basically, the Philharmonia youth council, they said we could go in with the VIPs and get free cake, but we couldn't in the end
Glinka was nice, and then Jack Liebeck with the Bruch concerto. Now, to be honest, I am not the greatest fan of stringed instruments, but his playing was just extroadinary, so moving, but not over the top. The Bruch is one of my favourite violin pieces.
Finally, the Tchaik. 4. I didn't know I knew it, but I recalled the last couple of movements. The conductor made this piece, so energetic, really getting the best out of the players. The triangle bits made me laugh, as this 1 percussionist just had the triangle to play, and the piccolo player looked so bored as he didn't play in the first 2 movements which made me laugh.
So overall, a fantastic concert, and even better it was free
