I'm kinda applying for music. smile.gif

I'm actually applying for Creative Express Therapies at Derby University, and doing the Music Therapy pathway.

At the moment I have grade 8 Bass Guitar (RGT/LCM), grade 5 Tuba (ABRSM), grade 5 Trumpet (ABRSM), grade 1 Recorder (Trinity), grade 1 Percussion (ABRSM), grade 3 Mandolin (VCM), grade 2 Piano (Guildhall), grade 2 Drum Kit (Rockschool), and grade 3 Electric Guitar (RGT/LCM).

My AS grades are sadly nowhere near as satisfying as my music grades; C's in Sociology and English Language, D in General Studies, and a U in Biology! sad.gif

At A2 I'm predicted B in Sociology and English Language, C in General Studies, and a C in AS Pyschology which I'm taking in place of Biology.

I'm more worried than excited; my personal statement isn't brilliant, and my AS/A2 grades are nothing special either. I'm just hoping I can scrape in.

Applying to: probably - oxford, manchester, nottingham, york, royal holloway and sussex... but not sure...

Piano: 8

Trumpet: dip/8 - main instrument

AS grades: AAAC - Music, history, classics with C in latin

predicted AAA

but judging by my music college post, i don't have a clue what i'll end up doing! lol
Kate
The closing dates is nearly upon us.... ph34r.gif
My personal statement for Uni is quite good but I need to modify it at bit for my conservatoire applications! No use me declaring my love for academic study for a music college course! laugh.gif
My UCAS and CUKAS will be sent off mid-week I think - I ended up just getting them both done at the same time because of the Joint Course being a tight application procedure.

Applying to: RCM, RNCM (Joint and BMus) Birmingham Conservatoire. Manchester, Nottingham, and Birmingham Universities. On the off chance I get onto the Joint Course I will go to University, otherwise I will go to music college and kiss academic study goodbye, which I don't really want to do. blink.gif

Clarinet Grade 8, Piano Grade 8.

AS Level Grades Pending... we don't validate them until next year, so we can keep any results we don't like quiet and resit! It's alway's been our colleges policy.... I got AAAAB - Music, Maths, Spanish, General Studies and a B in French. I've dropped French but will resit the one module I bombed! I am prdicted AAAA for A2 but they don't care about General Studies anyway!

Calm at the moment but there's plenty of time yet for panic to set in... laugh.gif

Sort of. tongue.gif I'm actually applying mainly to do Classics, but 2 of my 6 UCAS options are for Music and I'm applying for music college as well.

Southampton, Surrey, RAM, RCM, Trinity, RNCM.

Currently Classical Guitar - 8, Piano - 5 plus viola and singing but no grades in those.
By the time I get there though I'm hopefully going to be:
Classical Guitar - DipABRSM, Piano - 6, Viola - 8, Voice - 8

AS: BBCC...things went a little wrong. Classics, Music, Spanish, Maths.

Predicted: AAB. Classics, Music, Spanish.

It's all a bit surreal. UCAS and CUKAS are all ready to go now. Tis mad.

Sounds exciting!

Friend of mine went to Derby and did I think some sort of music tech course. He loved it!

Yeah, Derby does look rather good. Although having read everyone elses (quite frankly) amazing AS grades and A2 predictions, I'm starting to have serious doubts as to whether I have any chance of getting onto the course. unsure.gif
sarah-flute
No point worrying about it. I don't think my friend's grades were stellar!

I should imagine for a course like that they are looking at least as much at your interest and vocation for the subject as for your grades.

Good luck smile.gif

Am applying for 3 year music course - so far Leeds College of Music on CUKAS and haven't decided completely on UCAS yet but Huddersfield and Bangor are on there wink.gif

I did it! I sent it off, but my Dad's credit card has had a real hammering! I cannot believe they charge so much for auditions. I'm paying him back anyway but it's going to leave a hole in my bank account! blink.gif
Has anyone else sent theirs yet? I will post my references tomorrow - I have school so well trained!
hannah
I sent my CUKAS form off yesterday. I know what you mean about the cost - I nearly had a heart attack. Hopefully can claim money back off RWCMD for being on the JD!
Kate
Can you do things like that? That would cut it down for me considerably considering they charge TWICE for RNCM cos I'm applying for the BMus and the Joint course! I am part of their JD so perhaps I should try and pull some strings....
Did you send the same personal statement to CUKAS and UCAS? I didn't think I would but when it came to it I kind of just shrugged and thought that there is an audition guarantee at the Music Colleges anyway. Perhaps that was a bad idea but it's done now so I may as well just forget about it and just relax!
hannah
Haven't applied to UCAS so I only wrote one statement.
Annetta
Looking at Cardiff, Canterbury, Bath Spa & Roehampton (London)

By the time I go, I will have:

Grade 8 theory
Grade 8 singing
Grade 6 flute
Grade 5 piano

Got B for AS Music (10 marks off an A)
D for AS English literature but I am resitting one of the papers!
A (Distinction) for BTEC Music Practice

Predicted for A2,

Music: A
BTEC Music Practice: AA/AAA
English Literature: B/C

All this UCAS application is really confusing...its taking me ages and time to get it right as well!

Well with grades that good it wouldn't really matter if you did get it wrong! tongue.gif

All you people with A's and B's, I just dunno how you do it! It's really impressive, I take my hat off to you! smile.gif

....just wish that I could do it too... dry.gif

Yes because there is so much competition to get into universities now...the application is the most important part!

Those are only predicted grades not necessarily the grades I will achieve overall, especially if you get a bad paper!

Thanks anyway

Just sent off my CUKAS form and my second reference went off this morning. unsure.gif
It's such a relief to have it finally sent off - I found it pretty stressful! There were only 2 of us at our 6th form applying through CUKAS and we basically got told to get on with it - the centre was so busy with all the oxbridge, vetinary science, medicine, law etc applicants that we were abandoned! (even though their deadline is 2 weeks after ours...!)
So glad it's out the way - at least we get more support for UCAS! (I hope....)
The audition fees for mine weren't too bad as I'm only applying to Leeds which is £30 (according to website) or £40 (according to CUKAS) plus the £15 - it doesn't seem unusual to have auditions costing well over £100, though it is still a lot of money to me. sad.gif

My auditions came to over £200. Fun fun!
I just sincerely hope I'm not wasting money by auditioning!
I'm going for RCM RAM TCM BC and Oxford, Kings and Royal Holloway!
Although I just so desperately want to go to college!
How much are you all practising!?
Anyone else scared?!

*nods*
Also getting worried about UCAS now - I can only find 4 uni's that I actually want to (and possibly could) go to, plus two which I would love to go to but entry requirements are too high, plus 4 I can't decide on! Arrrgh the stress!!

I am sending off my application next week!

Yes, it has for CUKAS - that was October the 1st, but of course there are many music courses at universities and the UCAS applications aren't late until January 15th? Something like that anyway! I have just sent mine off today! *scared*. Haven't got an audition date from CUKAS yet (sent it off a few weeks ago). A girl in our year already has a conditional offer without even having gone for interview! smile.gif
