Hi folks,

Was wondering if anyone knows the descant part to the "traditional" tune for The Lord's My Shepherd?

Planning to play an instrumental in church in a couple of weeks' time with a friend, and this is one of the possibles... we can work out parts etc, but if we can find the nice descant to this then it would be a good start.

If anyone knows it/knows where's it's available online/can suggest a recording on itunes or similar that has it...? smile.gif

Have a look at this. Look in the 'Music Library' under 'Arrangments' for 'Crimond' and there's a version with a simple descant. I'm not sure if it's the descant that you're thinking of but it may be of use to you. I think the music is free.

Sarah - I know another traditional descant to Crimond - (not the one the link),

although either one would probably be fine for you to play.

Thanks Allannah, looks like I need to install java to make it work! I am not certain which descant my friend was thinking of, but anything which gives us a start will be great, so I'll have a rummage... thanks biggrin.gif

MaggieMay: do you know if the music for it is available online at all?

PS: thanks for the title, I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the tune, it helps!!

Sarah, I don't know but I will have a look. Failing that I'll try some sort of short-hand notation ...

Maggie, you're a gem, thank you for looking smile.gif

Just installing java then I can look at the arrangements on this site, looks like we may end up with an embarassment of riches, excellent biggrin.gif thank you both very much biggrin.gif

I have found this ---

www.sibeliusmusic.com/cgi-bin/show_score.pl?scoreid=69074&storeid=45998 - 38k -
but because I don't have sibelius scorch installed I can't tell if it's the same one.

The descant I know begins with an octave jump C to C'

if you have scorch you might be able to see if this is any good, anyhow!

Thanks Maggie. My connection is being a pain and javascript doesn't want to load rolleyes.gif I may wait till I can look on my friend's computer, but at least we have a starting point! Thank you both smile.gif

Sarah, as you're having problems with Java I've just sent you a copy of this via email.

Maggie: yes, we can play both, or pick our favourite bits and make up our own - it's all a good starting point!

Allannah: THANK YOU! Brilliant - I tried installing java again and it didn't want to know, so thank you very much, that will help a lot biggrin.gif
