I could come along if it was not too far from home, south or east anglia.

I can play piano, keyboards, all recorders, flute (gd1 standard with a plaster on (see other thread!)), violin/viola but would have to borrow or hire one. Oh, and sing smile.gif

Wonderful, I'll add you to the list. smile.gif I think probably recorder or violin/viola would be most needed. How feasible is borrowing a violin or viola? huh.gif Maybe some forum members have one you could use.

I can bring 'Caprice' as well as 'Giuseppe'...so one spare violin available!! biggrin.gif

Thanks Jane, would feel much better playing a violin than viola, it's been a long time biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Boo Radley @ Sep 30 2006, 01:10 PM) *

In another thread (the Recording Charlie Wilson one to be precise), there was an idea put forward about meeting up at a studio to perform and record compositions by other forum members. As the level of interest seemed to be a little luke-warmish, we decided to start another thread to alert some of you members who may not have read the other thread. smile.gif Here is the general gist of what Katyjay has suggested, it would be great to get as many as possible:

"Would people be interested in taking part in a recording session (as if we were real session artists) with a sound engineer to make a proper CD of Charlie Wilson Blues and any other stuff we might do along with it?

Do any of our brilliant forums composers have anything they might be interested in having a Forums Ensemble record?

I have a sound engineer who's interested in the project, and obviously there would be a cost from each participant to cover his fees and premises hire, but hopefully if enough people are interested that shouldn't be too steep. And then there'd be a small additional cost for copies of the CD, which of course you could send to your best friends, your Auntie Mabel, your Mum..........Our preference is going to be music that can (either directly or with a bit of tweaking) be played by all the people we have present, rather than having people "sitting out" for some of the tracks, so that everyone involved gets value for money from their day.

We also thought that if we have enough people with conducting experience, we can take it in turns to conduct, so everyone gets to play for at least some of the time.

I can't give you cost figures yet, it will depend on how many people take part, and how many works we want to record.
But just to give you a guideline, the engineer charges by the hour, and so will whatever premises we work in. The engineer will spend some time mic'ing and sound-checking before we start to record, and will spend some time editing and mixing afterwards. I would be surprised if this comes to less than ?200 altogether.

And, as I mentioned before, there will be a charge for each CD he supplies at the end of the process.

Because the engineer's time is expensive, we do need to be ready to record on the day. So I think it might be a good idea to have a practice day beforehand. And when we've sorted the music, I'll distribute parts beforehand for home practice too.

So far, I've had expressions of interest (which don't yet commit people) from

I could play drums for anyone wanting any kind of percussive backing...

Or, I could send some of my song (pre-recorded!) to you, if you wanted to include anything on a compilation... Also, not performed but sequenced tracks are available also... Currently sequencing a Tchaikovsky Nocturne... Will be doing a Haydn Symphony (No. 26 to be precise!) later in the year...

Hello

I would be interested but it would depend on when and where. It would also have to be a Saturday or Sunday as I work everyday. August, as I think was suggested, would be a good month for me as my choir, violin lessons, art group etc. stop during August. I am about Grade 2 standard violin, G5 piano and can sing.

katyjay
Hi Alto,

We're still trying to work out the when & where exactly. We will keep people posted when we have more details.

Cheers

OK folks, we've got a PROVISIONAL date for this event.

It's a bit earlier than some of us anticipated, at the 24th March.

How are people set for availability on that date?

I can see that Saturday would be a good choice for many people, and I'm making a note of the date - however as far as I'm concerned, unless it's in the Easter holiday I would need to justify cancelling lessons - not an easy decision.

Easter Saturday in '07 is the 7th April. I think for most of the UK, the 24th March is the last 'working' Saturday of the school term.

I hope you can come, but can quite understand if you're unable to. Sundays are a possibility, but that would possibly take out other forumites involved in church activities, plus the fact that, outside of major cities at least, public transport is iffier on Sundays.

I've had a quick look at the term dates in your area - schools are still in session then (one more week before the Easter holidays), so I shall keep my fingers crossed it's an orchestra rehearsal that it's not absolutely necessary you're at, or you finish a week early!
