I'm hoping to enter some of my younger pupils for the Prep Test in the Spring. I'm familiar with the format of grades 1 - 8, but have never used the Prep Test before. Can anyone please tell me what to expect? Thanks!

I love the Prep Test. Many of my beginners have taken it, and are very proud of their certificate, even if they are now rather more advanced.

I don't know about the violin specifically as it's not an instrument I teach, but the format would be similar.
Getting them the learn the pieces from memory may be difficult, although some find this easy. Choose a set piece they will really enjoy, and for the own choice piece, don't be too ambitious. Some of my recorder players have done pieces with only three notes B, A, G, and it has gone well.

They generally enjoy the well-disguised aural tests, and then come out of the exam room with their certificate. They don't have to wait a few weeks like everyone else.

It's a fantastic first milestone - good luck!
