Had a party, playing kids party games and eating lots of cake.
Also playing twister with ridiculous amounts of 17-18 yr olds on the board at once!

I spent that Summer lifeguarding at a local pool. So I persuaded the people in charge that (1) I should have the day off and (2) I should be able to bring my friends into the pool for a pool party.
Then, the plan was, we'd all go round to my house for tea.
Almost all my friends had organised themselves so that the ones who could drive gave lifts to the others. Wheras I was on my bicycle.
So we finished in the pool, and everyone set off for my house. And as I was cycling back, it started raining. Heavily. I got soaked to the bones.
So all the guests arrived before me, and I squelched in completely waterlogged, much to their amusement. I had to go and change again before I could join them for tea.

Had cake and soft drinks in school at lunchtime ( I was too boring to drink alcohol).
Decided I didn't want to be 18 because as far as I could see grown up spent too much time on the bickering they tell kids of for doing so my mum said I could be any age I wanted as it was my birthday.
I opted for 14 (Now THAT was a good year).

jelly and ice cream party - I shared it with my sister who was 1 year old on the same day. She's 18 this year, so I've told her we have to do the same....

Got quite merry and got thrown out of a rather rough docklands pub in Cardiff whereI was in music college at the time after showing my friends how to do a dance that I had seen whilst playing for ballet classes. The dance was done on a small round table and although I weighed only around the eight stone mark then I managed to snap a leg off said table and the manager was fed up with us and asked us, not too politely, to leave. Perhaps the jelly and ice cream idea would be safer. On a serious note though, don't overdo the alcohol. My father (a medic) used to have to sort out some very tragic cases after young lads had overdone the birthday boozing and had become dangerously ill, and died as the result on more than a few occasions. Whatever you decide to do have a great dirthday. By the way, how do you find enough time to practise all of your instruments on a daily basis? I would not have enough free hours to do it.

I went out for a lovely meal with my family and my boyfriend Nigel. My mum and dad really liked Nigel, but I hated the way he laughed and I hated the way he kissed, so it was never really going to last was it!!!

Oh yes, the 'too much alcohol' thing. I remember my other sister's 18th - she and a friend ended up in hospital having their stomachs pumped. Not great.

I was on a weekend away with friends from church, went home for a bit to see relatives and have lunch, then went back and was with my friends in the evening... assuming I am remembering the right birthday. Was nice

I seem to remember my 18th birthday was a kind of 'open house' for friends to drop by and have a drink and piece of cake........and it wasn't the joyous occasion I'd been looking forward to either as my boyfriend at the time who'd I'd been going out with for 2 1/2 years dumped me a few days before my 18th...........

Good timing, or what........ (NOT, by the way!!!!! Just in case anyone was nodding their heads sagely and saying "yes, I agree - the timing was pretty good........"

Do apologise for breaking the over 18s rule, but my brother's having a massive party at the hockey club on Saturday, and consequently I shall be distinctly unfocused at orchestra on Sunday morning.

My 18th was well boring: Local public holiday, went to the show (was the show holiday) did nothing unusual there, couldn't have a party that weekend as most of my friends went away for that weekend. Following weekend had a party, no biggie as most of my friends are younger than me, so we just sat around and had a party but no alcohol. Twister was good, two of my friends ended up calling it a draw after it went on for nearly a half hour just between the two of them.

I know I'm under 18 too, but Mum wanted to know a couple of months ago what I wanted to do for my 18th, and that's not til June! Actually, she wanted to know when the dates of my exams were so we could have a big family gathering. Hmmm

As I turned 18 before all of my friends we decided to play it safe and went out to the hard rock cafe for an expensive but so-not-worth it meal! Then we went off to a bar where we knew we wouldnt get asked too many questions

My 18th was on a Friday. I'd arranged to meet some friends at a local pub and then we were supposed to go on clubbing. First part was OK, but when we got to the club all my friends hooked up and I was left all by myself. Some birthday! I set off for home (about 3 miles) and then got stuck in the middle of a fight which kicked off on the street outside. Cue numerous police cars and vans turning up. I got roped in to giving a witness statement. It all got too much, I broke down and start sobbing. A rather nice constable took pity on me and gave me a lift home. Rather cheekily he asked for my number and, to cut a long story short, thirty-five years later we are still married and have just celebrated the arrival of our sixth grandchild.

Ahh- that's a very sweet story!

I have a twin sister, so we had a joint party (joint as in being together not THAT kind of joint!!) She went off sulking cos more of my friends turned up than hers!!

My 18th was a bit rubbish to be honest.
I went to a friends 18th party (hers was the followin week, my was that day - typical) and got typsy. I couldnt get too drunk as the choir i am in was going on a weeks camping holiday! Travelling in a car with 3 junior choristors in not fun, so i didnt get to hammered.
During the camp however, thats a different matter

I drank an entire litre of Gordons Gin, straight from the bottle.
The next day wasn't quite as fun i can tell you!

My parents bought me a Clavinova as an 18th birthday present, so I spent most of the day playing with my birthday presents, before we all went out for a meal in the evening. Remarkably restrained - which is more than can be said for later birthdays

jill - glad your birthday had a happy ending.
Keith - sounds vaguely familiar. I polished off most of a bottle of champagne one birthday, and woke up the following morning with a stonking hangover. Later that morning I had a clarinet lesson, in a small but resonant room, and most of the lesson was spent working on altissimo notes

Jill, what a lovely story!
I think I went out for a prawn cocktail, T-bone steak and Black Forest gateau meal with about 6 of my friends (that dates me but it was wild at the time!!!).
The most memorable thing about it was much later when my dad told me how bowled over he was with all these gorgeous girls whose meal he was paying for - and then realised with great shock that he was lusting after his daughter's schoolfriends!

A few days before mine, I had my friends round for foood and drinks (mostly cider!), silly games and a video. On the day itself (a public holiday) I went shopping and got myself a mandolin. Later on I went out for dinner with my family.

Yes I can! How silly of me. Have just remembered what I did for my 21st (can I do this one as I'm so old!!!?) - and how could I forget it as it was such a lovely thing. I went to Switzerland just before my 21st. It was my special birthday present from my uncle, who lived with us. He gave me an all-expenses paid trip - we stayed in Lugano and it was wonderful.

For my 18th birthday, I went out for dinner with family and some friends. The funny part was, when we left the restaurant the waiter gave me a lolly-pop and a plastic animal thingy. He must have thought I was a lot younger
