Could someone with a copy of the new AB grade 8 piano anthology please tell me the metronome markings of the Beethoven sonata in G (op.31 no.1). It may well have different markings for the first and second subjects. Also, what are the footnotes for the piece? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm on the other side of the world and don't have access to that edition.

I dont have the AB version, but I have another edition which says 140 crotchets. This seems OK to me, , second subject at same speed.

I have a couple of editions, the Liszt edition giving crotchet 138 and the other a ludicrous 160ish. I recently heard Glenn Gould butcher it by playing the whole movement even faster than that. I would like to know what the AB expect of candidates, since these tempi seem a little difficult to maintain for a grade 8 exam.

Surely someone on the forum must have a copy of the new grade 8 book... huh.gif

I have, but the Beethoven isn't in it. It's B5, which means it's an alternative choice. sad.gif
