Why are we am I addicted to the Forums?
rolleyes.gif

Hmmm yes I keep asking myself that question laugh.gif Particularly as I've managed to get through the rest of my life up to now without becoming addicted to anything else. But yep, guilty, I now have two addictions - practising and forumming. I've come up with a few reasons why -

- good excuse not to do boring things like housework tongue.gif
- absorbing, therefore stress-relieving
- forumming is entertaining, sociable and instructive, which makes me wonder if learning itself is addictive, because both my addictions are connected with learning, which would explain why none of my other activities have ever led to "addiction". Does anyone know if this is the case?

Why do YOU think you're addicted, LC? wink.gif

And does anyone know where we can get help tongue.gif . Perhaps we should set up an FA (Forumites Anonymous) self-help group laugh.gif laugh.gif

No, I'm not addicted. I'm an expert in self-delusion.

I'm only here when I'm sitting down witha cup of tea

- so it's simply a low fat alternative to a biscuit for me.

I think that addiction is too strong a word to use. To me an addiction is something that interferes with the things that should be done. If someone was to miss lessons or work, fail to do the housework on a regular basis or run up huge internet bills that they could not afford then that might qualify, but to spend time here because it is fun, often thought provoking and usually fun is no more than enthusiasm.

Nope, I'm not addicted, I simply don't have the time. Uni is so much work!
Devil_Fiddler
I'm not addicted to just these forums... but along with several others you would probably say I am...
Manek
I'm addicted to three main forums... (Inc. this one, ofc!) With another three of four which I visit occasionally (ie. three of four times a week maximum!) on the side...

It's 1 am and I should be in bed, but I'm here posting: I suppose I might be considered enthusiastic, but addicted? Not sure.

If you just fail to do the housework or weed the garden - does that count as addiction unsure.gif rolleyes.gif blink.gif

Guilty as charged. However given what my job is I have found out some really useful stuff, and really appreciate the imput of other musicians be they fellow teachers, adult learners, parents, teenagers etc. This may be a virtual community but reading how other people thinks about issues has enhanced my teaching, given me access to resources I would not have been aware of, and been supportive too.

Thanks everyone!

The question is, is your wife saying "For God's sake get off the computer and come to bed"? rolleyes.gif

I think i may have a slight addiction unsure.gif
BusyBee
Some days I think I don't feel like foruming so I wait until I feel enthusiastic again. I'm less busy than I was last year so I have more time. I'm not exactly addicted but if the forums didn't exist I would spend more time on the piano.

My family say I'm addicted because sometimes they will arrive home and see I'm on the computer and they'll say something like 'oh you're not on there again' or 'thought I'd find you here' etc etc

Right now I should be cooking lunch because I want to go out this afternoon! For a change! smile.gif

Better go and get on with it - I'll be back later though......

I'm not addicted but it is a very good habit rather than a bad one. I do sometimes think I ought to be spending that time practising the piano. Also, if something has upset me I like coming to the forum to take my mind off it and going to bed on a good note.
BusyBee
I'm still here!! I really must log off and go and cook that lunch! ohmy.gif

You know you're addicted to the forums when your email address has different folders in it, each for different forum events...

Gosh I'm totally addicted!!! rolleyes.gif tongue.gif Recently I've come on here literally every day for hours!! It's a wonder I get anything else done!!

I think it's addictive because obviously it's about music, and there's always so many people online that new and interesting topics are always flying everywhere!!! tongue.gif

I'm quite new as you can see but just see how fast I chalked up the number of posts. That must be a sign of addiction. Hehe.

I used to have to answer back when people said I was not mature even though I used big words. I felt the injustice could not go unrebutted. People sent me cruel PMs that always began with words like "You're the least mature person I've ever encountered."

Nowadays, more and more people are saying that I sound much older than my age. One chap even said I was very knowledgeable - he almost called me a Mr Know-All. All that gives me the confidence that I am terribly mature. Nobody tells an immature person he sounds older than his age.

Now, I'm real cool. I'm so confident in my super-maturity that I don't bother what people say. I just focus on what I want to talk about and I go about completely untrammelled by my own personal emotion.

Because of this, I can stay away from the forum more easily. My holiday helped. But I'm still very much drawn to the forum so I suppose I'm still mildly addicted.
