I did mention this over in CISD but I thought I might get a better response here for some reason....
Me, Screwdriver. Pitch Pipe. Anything else I might need, things to avoid, anything at all helpful.......
THanks

I'm very impressed with your aural abilities if you are confident enough to tackle this on your own.
Either that, or I could recommend taking a degree in piano tuning, so you can train your ear to hear and your hands to tune.

I'm not brilliant at Aural! But I know I can do a better job than its current (mis)tuning. Probably hasn't been tuned for years. I know It hasn't in the 5 years I've been there.

A screwdriver won't do much good, unless you're going to play Cage. Buy a proper tuning hammer!
What's CISD?

Where does one get one of those? Or can someone suggest a suitable substitute as I probably won't be able to get one?

Either a pair of reasonable sized pliers, or an adjustable spanner.

YAP was probably being quite serious... my tuner turned up one day with 7 stitches in his ear and face after a string broke. He said without goggles he would be blind.

I can well believe that! How many equivalent tonnes of tension in a piano wire??

By the time you've bought the equipment you need, you could have paid for a professional tuner to come and do it for you!

The idea is to do it well enough that I don't wince every time someone plays 2 notes, not perfectly.
