Ha, I actually thought you meant "Cops" as in policemen. The abbreviation I normally know is "Comp."
Music-wise, there are a variety where I live. There's this annual Beethoven comp I used to do, but stopped two years ago for other purposes. Lots of university-orientated comps. Everything other than music-wise, I go almost every other weekend or something of that sort during the school year. It doesn't take that long as music comps (well, if I make it to State that's a week and Nationals are . . . I don't know, I never made it) as most are only one day (Sat) or two days. Rewarding, too, as even the Finalists get a nice, smaller trophy or block.

There's a big music/performing arts competition held in Bedford in March every year - there are loads of classes, something for every age & ability. The syllabus is available in November I think.
I know Grantham used to have something similar - my husband used to enter as a child. That may still be on.

It's worth asking in music shops Nicki - they should know what's happening in your area.

Thanks! I will. I don't know whether I'd enter, it would just be a goal to aim for, you know?

hiya. my choir won the eisteddfod a few years ago. well...the category we were in anyway. that was fun.
and we have the 'leicester festival' which is pretty lame and people tend to stop entering after theyre about 10.
thats about it...other than our youth orchestra enters the masterprize competition too. i dont think we've won that for a while though.

I went to the Eisteddfod when I was about 9, not realising or appreciating what it was (I think I was playing recorder in school at the time...hmmm).
We have Battle of the Bands round here, and thats as far as it goes to my knowledge.
