Hi all,
I havent taken any grades as such yet, but I've been playing for a few weeks now and I am on the grade 3 and 4 books. I'm loving the Hall of the Mountain King, anyone else?

Help! I do my Grade 4 tomorrow! I should be fine - did a mock yesterday and my teacher said I should get a distinction, but he said that for my Grade 2 - it was a disaster - I shook so much and my bow bounced everywhere - I only got 116. Any tips on how to stop the bow bouncing when I'm nervous?

im doin grade 7 in the summer. i dont know about stopping the bow bouncing, just dont let your self get to nervous. dont think about the exam and go in positive, i used to always worry about them, but i dont anymore. (much...)

i'm on grade 5

Appassionata - maybe u could slow down ur bow speed a lil & put a tiny bit more pressure on ur second finger (right hand, 'course). jst an idea.

1) how come sometimes when i post the post goes straight online, but other times it takes a day to go on (supposely admin has to see it first) ?
2) why is it that i can't look at members' profiles (when i click on their names)? it says that i don't have 'permission to use this feature'. i can't even see my own profile this way!

1) in some forums like the student forum, all posts get looked at first.
2)i think its because they dont want everyone to see others personal information, i think!

Thanks for your advice musical_me. My exam was okayish. Pieces were fine - bow bounced a bit in Stormy Weather, but my scales - ahh

I knew them all - could play them perfectly but just totally messed up! Sight reading wasn't great either, but aural was okay. It was a weird loaction for exam - the aisle of a huge church!!!

what are the pieces?

(If the last comment was directed at me... I think it was!)
I'm playing:
From List A: J.S. Bach Concerto in A minor, 2nd movt: Andante
From List B: Henri Wieniawski, 'Obertass' Mazurka
And From List C: Turina, La Oración del Torero
My favourite of the three is definitely the Turina, but I do like them all. It's a nice, varied programme to play
P.S. Have been practicing scales all afternoon and I think I have them down now! Yay! Now all that's left is to practice identifying the last 4 cadence chords...

Do you play any other instruments isabelsmells? Which instrument do you find easier - violin or viola? Do you ever get confused between clefs?!!!

Yep, I play the piano, I'll be doing grade 5 on that at Easter, and I used to play the clarinet, but I gave it up and I just tinker on it now.
I don't get confused that much, I manage to keep the viola and violin seperate in my brain, but if I'm playing something difficult, it'll throw me and I'll think I'm playing on a different instrument playing a different clef. But thats happening less and less now.
I find viola easiest, partly cos I like it more so I practice it more
