Hi I've just registered but have been reading items in the forums for a while.
I currently teach my 12year old daughter Piano, she passed grade 2 with merit last year. She also has private lessons on two other instruments. I have entered her for her grade 3 piano exam in November. I wanted to ask advice from teachers regarding the above piece. I read in the teaching notes that the una corda pedal can be used in bars 3 and 4. Would you put this down at the beginning of bar 3 and hold it down until the end of bar 4? Would you use any other pedaling in this piece.

The other pieces she is playing are A2 Aria and C4 Sue's Blues. Her pieces are coming on well. She's only been learning them for a few weeks as she gets bored playing the same pieces for extended periods and prefers to work hard over a short period, although scales and aural have been worked on in advance.

Any suggestions welcome thank you

I'm also playing this piece, and I like it. Unfortuantly, I'm pretty useless with pedals and such, not having any at home ph34r.gif And very few at school ph34r.gif ph34r.gif

I haven't read the teacher's guide but I have told my pupil to use left pedal for the duration of these bars. Sustain pedal can also be used throughout.

I agree with Hannah re. pedalling and I have entered students who played this piece.
Additional pedalling is also needed throughout the piece to achieve the desired legato.

The best piece of advice I was ever given was pedal with your ears!! blink.gif

It's so true and unless you really listen as you play good use of pedal is difficult to achieve.
