Could anyone suggest a book for a pupil who has been playing for around two years, has managed to complete Piano Time 1 fairly successfully (plus extra pieces from other books along the way) and was very keen to go on to Piano Time 2, but is now struggling with that level? I've got a cupboard full of piano books in my piano room and was thinking of giving her the John Schaum Blue Book, because I've used it before with pupils in a similar situation, but I'm thinking that there are probably some newer books out that I don't know about. I'm going to start her on Grade 1 work after Christmas, but she doesn't have much confidence and I want to build that up a bit more before I do.
Having had such a great response to my previous topic about finding choir material, I'm sure you will all have ideas for me!
Thanks in advance,
Jenny

Have you looked at the two Party Time books? I find these quite good for the "nearly grade one" stage. Also Finger Jogging Boogie has several that she might manage - (although a few that are slightly harder).
Piano Time Jazz book one has some that a pre-grade one might tackle. The first are published by the AB by the way; PT Jazz is Oxford.

I think you're wise to be cautious if I may say so - it's all too easy for a bit of confusion to set in around this stage. Just a couple of quick ideas - will post later if I think of more.

What about UpGrade and More UpGrade by Pam Wedgwood (i.e. Grade 0-1)?

The Bastien books are good - take a look at the Christmas ones too.

Yes, some great pieces in these. Children seem to like them.

I use Classic to Moderns book 1 and Piano Time Jazz book 1. As Christmas is approaching, I shall be using Piano Time Carols by Pauline Hall (OUP) or Christmas Fun by Alan Haughton, this season for Pre-Grade 1 to Grade 1 children.

I'd have a look at Making the grade (all grades available from pre-grade 1 - grade 5) for some 'modern' pieces that they might actually know or some of the easier Christmas song books, Chester, Carol Barratt etc.
I also use the UpGrade range - very popular with pupils of all ages and levels.
