Does anyone play in a brass band???

What do you think of it????
pianocelloflute
I do! They are good fun- the sound is amazing.
I find that schools brass bands (or at least the one I am in) has a not very good behaviour standard during rehearsals until the one before any concert!
obviously this is not a problem in "adult" brass bands!

I'm not in a brass band, but without exception the brass section in every orchestra I have been in has been exceedingly badly behaved when they bother to turn up.

Do you?

I play soprano in a brass band, and its brilliant, despite taking up a lot of time. We've just finished a production of Brassed Off, which meant two solid weeks of rehearsal/performance every evening! It was fun though biggrin.gif I think we must have had our busiest year ever, with the areas, CD recording, summer concerts, nationals and then Brassed Off. We've now got out first week off of the year!! Won't know what to do with myself every evening....!
If you don't already play in one I would revommend you start! It helps your playing no end, and is also great socially!

Sounds like a voice of experience! I play in my school "Orchestra" although there are only about 16 of us. We dont have a brass band, as there are only to brass players in a school of 700, me and some other kid.

I play solo euphonium in one brass band, and 1st baritone in a different one.

I play in two brass bands, hopefully three soon biggrin.gif

Ouch! We aren't all like that - promise!

Hmmm. I'll wait until the brass section isn't the same few people then... They seem to turn up in every group, or we havn't got a brass section.

I used to play in a few brass bands, a few with the salvation army!

I'm in a Brass band outside school, playing 2nd euph. Some of band can be really hard work - you're expected to play to a really high standard everytime you play, but stuff like concerts and marching is really fun. On saturday I went marching and it was so fun, even though it was really cold!

I play in a brass sextet. We play mostly quintet music with a euph doubling the trombone part. I really love it, mainly because it allows me to continue playing. I would prefer to play in an orchestra, but there isn't one around here. I played principal in the Belmont University Symphony Orchestra (in Nashville) in college .

I'm not sure if I should join our City Band or not. It says "open to players of all abilities" so I should be fine... there just doesn't seem to be anyone else of my age in it. They sound really good and I don't want to mess up their sound. I could just be being incredibly lacking in self-confidence. I am grade 7/8 standard,... I just... can't decide! blink.gif

Go along and find out if you like it.
At that level chances are you'll be one of the more experienced players in an all abilities band.

Make that 4 brass bands now. wink.gif

That's the thing... it says 'all-abilities', but they really don't sound like it! They sound perfect! Well, I suppose I will have to go along and give it a try!

4 Brass Bands? That's just being greedy! tongue.gif

Well I am in the school brass band which is only a small band of 10 members. I play in the local music centre brass band where there are about 25 members. I play in the Staffordshire youth brass band and as of last week I play in a contest band smile.gif
