Full Version: Names For The Octaves

Roseau
My not quite seven-year-old daughter, who has been having piano lessons for four weeks, has given the different octaves on the piano names.

From top to bottom they are: Amber, Laurence *, Hattie, Tom, James, Troll and Thunder.
She has learnt from memory the beginning of Au Clair de la Lune and Old Mac Donald Had a Farm and before starting to play she says "Who shall I get to play (whatever tune)?"

(For those of you who have read some of my other posts, this is the selective mute who does not actually talk to her teacher).

* Laurence is a girl's name in French.

erm - well he's a nice guy, fun to teach, he's keen on his music and works well, and we laugh quite a bit, on the other hand he doesn't post here as far as I know - so I'll say ... hang on - you suggesting we have favourites ??? wink.gif

Reminds me of when I started learning, and we had all those little letters for notes, so you could play a tune and have it spell B-A-G or D-A-D and we'd find it hilarious..lol

I was doing some of that yesterday, kind of the other way round - I amused one little boy by telling him what words he played without watching him play them - fun to occasionally do something they find cool!

One of the disappointing things about calling your notes "do, re, mi etc." as they do in French is that you can't make up words to play.

There is a book which does similar I think - every octave is a different animal.....it's by Maggie Teggin.........
