My family and I are going to visit my brother at Huddersfield University on Wednesday and we were wondering if anyone knows of any decent pubs/restaurants around the University itself (i.e. Queensgate area, near the canal)?

Any replies much appreciated!

Even if they're really unhelpful replies? biggrin.gif wink.gif

Noodle - he uses pubs to drink, not to eat laugh.gif . And I'm sure he probably only goes to one or two. We're looking for some out of town ones. My dad's made a list but I thought it would be good to have some first hand experiences! biggrin.gif

I can't remember the name of the pub, but at Huddersfield station there's a really nice pub there.

I always used to go to the Zetland, that was quite near the University (If its still there of course)

The "Zet" is now the "Rat and Parrot" I was gutted when I last visited Huddersfield. I used to go to the "Prince Albert", and of course if your prepared to go to Linthwaite there is "the Sair"

If you like Italian, O Sole Mio is good, and Sher e Punjab was the curry house most of the music students hung out at!

Do remember I graduated from Huddersfield in 1991 so things might have changed!

Shouldn't they have called it the Rat and CARROT instead of Parrot? huh.gif

If your prepared to drive there's a nice hotel, I think its called the Old Bridge in Holmfirth. Food is excellent and they keep their beer well.

The best place I know for eating around 'Hudders' is a restaurant called the Weavers Shed at Golcar.
Theres aslso a nice less formal Italian restaurant called 'Da Sandros' up near the motorway towards Ainley top.
