It's been good this year, some really promising dancers in this year's crop

Is it just me or does Jan always look frumpy? In a way I have sympathy with Brendon because Jan is definately the weakest dancer, she just doesn't go the extra mile. Will she be out this week?

I think with Jan her nerves really get her and although last week she apparently had a great dress rehearsal but she just messed up the actual performance. Although she is one of the weakest dancers, I doubt she will go out for a bit since she has Anton as a partner

Isn't the point of this that the weakest dancers DO go out? After all it's not a personality contest for the professionals!!!

It IS the point, but it's not always how people vote.
Often the ones who get the lowest score with the judges end up staying in through lots of sympathy voting - "awww, they were mean, I'll vote for him/her" - especially when people have "got to know" celebs or the dancers.
And some dancers have a huge following - Anton is a case in point. If they've been in for several series, people can end up voting for the dancers.
The moral of the story is, vote for the dancing and the celeb, don't vote for sympathy or the dancer, or else we get another Spoony situation.

Yes, I've got to agree!! Although I think the Spoony situation, although it was bad, may be good for the series in that people will *hopefully* be a bit more careful with their voting so that doesn't happen again.

True: and while Spoony was good I don't *think* he was ever going to win it, it was sad to lose him but there are others I'd've been sadder to lose, even though he was sooooo far from the bottom of the pile. And it would have been great to see what he had it in him to do.
Here's hoping it doesn't happen again. Can't wait for tomorrow!
VOTE FOR THE DANCING, FOLKS

Yes another good show. Bruce's impromptu dancing with the sound lady/producer was funny. Mark and Karen did really well to start again and make it so good! Shame that Anton has gone.

Loads of good dancing (some dreadful, but let's not go there)
The drama was Mark and Karen. They were obviously having problems, and then just stopped - it turned out his mic had come loose and got wrapped around her body! Fortunately they were allowed to restart, and set the floor alight second time round. Quite an incredible recovery, showed real professionalism.
Watch the highlights - it was a good show

Who chooses the music for the dancers? I was surely not the only one to notice that Jan and Anton's "Viennese waltz" was in 4 time?

No wonder they were out! The other Viennese waltz music wasn't much like the proper thing either - a Viennese waltz is a fast 3 time. Last week one of the paso dobles was nothing like a paso doble rhythm either.
I wish Claire would hurry up and go - she is so like someone I used to work with who wasn't a very pleasant person and I get reminded of this person every week!

_apparently_, the pros, the beeb have final refusal though and can force a change, I think.
Unfortunately it's not uncommon for a 4/4 piece to be crowbarred into 3/4 time, I hate it.
I'd've said "Iris" was in a swift 6/8 though... (or possible 12/8)
The Viennese Waltz is a fast waltz, so 6/8 or similar is the norm as I understand it.
OK just listened to it on itunes, it's changes to a kind of rumba 3+3+2 I guess they just stretched it a bit. It seems to change to 6/8 and back again in the original actually...... and then into 4/4, then back to some sort of compound time. If you crowbarred it to stay in compound time all the way through I think it would work OK though it'd be better to use real Viennese Waltz music.
I don't have any recollection at all of Anton and Jan's dance though so I don't remember what the beeb did with it.

Infact the music was in three but with a three-on-two rhythm going throughout. I haven't watched the show yet but that's what I thought when they had it on ITT. And seriously, how can you call Claire and Brendan's a salsa?? Ther were only about 2 salsa steps in the whole dance!!

C&B's dance was rubbish, I have to agree.

I've been thinking that too. If I got it in an aural I would never say it was a waltz!! And I agree on the pasos too. Some of the dances are definitely shoe-horned into the music, and for me it doesn't help at all. A dance rhythm should be just that. Call me old-fashioned......

Yes I meant Saturday, not thinking straight.
Just watched it, I thought Mark and Karen were great, maybe even better for the fact that they had to start again. The results made me cry!! Poor Jan, I felt so sorry for her!! I know she was one of the weakest dancers but still

Mark and Karen were amazing - how they pulled that performance out of the bag after such a disaster... wow. Really impressive.

Yep, Weren't Matt and Lilia great! Good ol' Len giving them a 10! Much as Peter Schmichael is a real character, he just doen't cut the mustard anymore. Still I think it'll be Claire and Brendan

Technically Peter isn't the weakest Ballroom dancer although tonight he made a few mistakes in the routine, his litin is laughable. Emma is awful at Latin she dances with bent legs, I want to shout at her over bending her knees! Mark was all over the place tonight he's much better at Latin. Carol carried it off quite well tonight.
I think this show is being judged on personality and not on dance skills.
Has anyone else noticed that some routines are very short? This gives an unfair advantage in my opinion.

Emma truly deserved to be in the bottom two based on last nights performance, she does not straighten her knees which I find really infuriating. Claire wasn't perfect but she danced technically a lot better this week.
