I'd love your opinions on the A pieces from the syllabus...
I was thinking of getting one of the alternative pieces:

Allegro assai: 2nd movt from Sonata in G, WO 14 - Clementi
Sonata in C, Kp. 159 (L. 104). No. 1 - Scarlatti
Finale (Presto): 3rd movt from Sonata in A flat, Hob. XVI/46 - Hadyn
or
Allegretto in C minor, WoO 57 - Beethoven from the ABRSM book

I'm really keen on all 4 of them - my teacher thinks I should do Giga by John Loeillet but neither of us really like it that much and Polonaise No. 5 in E flat by WF Bach is also out.

I haven't seen how the alternative pieces look like so I can't make my judgement yet.

Your say?

[I'm doing B6 Tchaikovsky's Octobre: Chant d'automne and C10 Bartok's Merry Andrew (my teacher doesn't know it yet - I haven't seen her in a month because of school exams).]

I think the Beethoven is the best of the lot on the A list, and I usually go for the alternatives outside of the book.

If you want an alternative, then the Clementi is a fun piece to play and the Scarlatti is a standard you might want to have in your future repertoire period.

Personally I'd do the Scarlatti, but its down to your own feeling of it.
I'd avoid the Haydn, its harder than it looks

I talked to my teacher today and we agreed on Scarlatti happy.gif ; so now I'll have to look for the book.
