Hi!
Are they any good because i was thinking of getting one for my tenor sax, but i don't know whether 2 or not? Are they any good and are they as safe/safer than the hard cases?
Thanks in advance,
Lizzie

It sounds as though you have never heard the nickname for a gig bag: "The repairer's friend". To be fair, I must admit that I don't know about their use for tenor saxes, but horn players are strongly advised to keep their instrument in a hard case. Modern glass fibre cases can be both strong and light.

NOOOOOO! Don't buy a tenor sax gig bag! its not worth it! I bought a ritter one because I'm only little and find the sax quite heavy to carry sometimes so thought a soft case would reduce the weight. I lasted a week using the case before I had to pay out for £90 of damage to blow out a dent in the front side of the bell which after a ride in my car became completely flat! Needless to say I never used to case again and recently sold it on eBay for 99p (accidently though, I forgot to put a reserve on it!)
Stick to the hard case, if you want to reduce the weight slightly buy a sax shaped case/flight case hiscox do good ones but they are rather expensive!

I have one for my bass clarinet and it's wonderful!! with mine it can be worn on your back, and it has made life so much easier! The hard case was sooo heavy and the handle really hurt my hand, so I looked into gig bags. Personally, I think they're great and well worth it. We went to Barcelona with our school windband, and with out this gigbag it would have been awful to carry about. Mine is really padded and very safe - all the sections of the instrument have their own comparment inside the big case. I have to admitt I had my doubts about the safety, but after having it for over 6 months I'd say its just as safe as the hard case. II'll find you the link from where I got mine off - and because I am still in school he gave me discounts on it!! smile.gif

I have a Hiscox for one of my alto saxes and it is BRILLIANT!
By far the best thing for safety and for protection. They may not seem cheap initially, but they will save repair bills.

Berkeley make hard cases too in a range of rather exotic colours - again not cheap, but must be stronger than a gigbag (though I haven't actually tried a Berkeley)

I doubt if a hard case is very much heavier than whatever case your sax came in - I did have a gigbag for a while but the stitching came undone and it went back. I didn't buy another one, and I wouldn't.

Thanks every1..i doubt if i'll be getting one as i just heard from someone else that their strap had undone and caused the sax to have a very bad dint in the bottom! ohmy.gif
Thanks anyway!

I use a Hiscox Hard-Case... Really good protection... They say that you can stand on them... Not that I'm gonna test that statement out or anything!
