Full Version: Applied For A Jazz Demo - Have I Become An Online Applicant?
Forums > ABRSM > General Music Forum

I applied to get a jazz demo from the AB a while ago, and today I got an email saying I had now become an online applicant. I have not applied to be one, so I'm very confused.

Can someone shed light on this..?

Exactly the same thing happened to me...... huh.gif

I thought maybe it was their unsubtle way of trying to prod me into applying online to take an exam
*runs away and hides in the corner with knees quaking at the mere thought*

Although.... I am thinking of doing the grade one challenge on the piano / keyboard on the grounds that at least I can sit down for it...there, I've said it now so I'll have to do it biggrin.gif

Well, I've already applied for my Grade 8, so it couldn't have been that.

Which demo are you going to, Nicki?

I'd love to go to one but transport's a problem.

Maybe once you're registered for something like that you're registered for online applications too??

Sarah, I presumed Nicki was referring to the jazz demo pack which the AB offered to send out to anyone who was interested in the new jazz flute syllabus. I sent off my details asking them to send me a pack weeks ago - I chased it up the other day because nothing had arrived, and was emailed the information that they were having some problems licensing some of the tracks for the demo CD (sounds exciting!) but as soon as they had got it sorted out, they would post the packs out to everyone on their list. The next email that came through (minutes later I think) was an automatically generated one saying "congratulations you have now successfully registered as an online applicant - here is your login and password" or words to that effect. So I assumed it was a computer glitch caused by them having checked to make sure I was on their database of people who were waiting for the jazz demo pack....

But maybe its just a marketing ploy, they're tricking us all into thinking, well, I can apply to do the exam online, so I might as well go for it.... biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I applied for a Jazz demo pack on my daughter's behalf. I wonder if she's now set up to be an online applicant blink.gif

Nooo, I meant that jazz demo pack thing

Maybe you just need to be an online applicant to register for the jazz demo.

But I registered for it, about 3 weeks ago!

May I know how can i apply for a jazz demo?
nicki_flute
Zongyi - I can't remember the link, I am sure someone else will direct you.

Got an email saying: "I am not sure what you registered for on-line, although as far as I am aware, it is not possible to apply for a jazz demo via the site."

I am sure, originally there was a form I had to fill in...and then did I have to email someone?

I'm confused...what if I don't want to be an online applicant?
Violinia
I think being an online applicant just means the AB have registered you as someone who has applied for something through them online. I book my pupils' exams online and I've been told I'm an 'online applicant' but this doesn't mean I have to put in for any exams when I don't want to! Nor does it mean I can't book pupils by snail mail if that's what I want later on.

Anyway don't worry - you won't be registered for any exam till you've booked yourself in and paid the money upfront.

Violinia, slightly tickled by the image of Nicki frantically fleeing a stern-looking AB robot administrator emitting (in robotic tones): 'you are an online applicant you are an online applicant...'

Hello

I've spoken to our IT team and they assure me it's nothing to worry about and that you haven't been entered for any exams or anything like that! It's an automated service which sends out this email when we input someone's details into our database (we do this to create a mailing list to send information out). It shouldn't be sending them out to people who have applied for a Jazz Information pack, but for some reason it is. They are looking into it and will get it sorted out as soon as possible. Also this doesn't affect any Data Protection preferences that you have specified.

Thanks smile.gif
