Should have asked this question BEFORE the jazz fest rolleyes.gif

But was just wondering did anyone make it over to the Cork Jazz Fest (finished last night) and if so, what'd you make of it? biggrin.gif

I only go to the New Orleans-style jazzfests so I don't really know any of the people listed on the web site. Was it good, did you enjoy it?

Aye, I did indeed; I was on the subcommittee again this year so managed to meet, greet and hang with all the bands - im surprised you dont know the names though, there's some fairly big wallops up there, although Nigel Kennedy couldn't go because the silly lad fell off his bicycle and broke his arm rolleyes.gif Poor guy. What he was doing on a bicycle i dont know wink.gif

However, great times had by all. Fell in LOVE with a band from south england - Ben Waters Boogie Band - apparently they play all over the world (google for sound files) absolutely amazing, in fact, will post clips up later in the week. Anyone in the England area (yes yes widespread) who enjoys that sort of style should deffo check them out.

A-MA-ZING! laugh.gif

Ben Waters Boogie Band sounds FUN - look forward to hearing the clips biggrin.gif

Courtney Pine came to my area not so long ago and I semi-wanted to see him because I thought I ought to listen to some different styles of jazz, but in the end I didn't go. Trouble is, none of my friends like ANY form of jazz, so unless I motivate myself to go and listen to different styles, I tend to stick with what I know I like.

Nigel Kennedy - haven't heard anything about him for aeons! What does he do these days??

Nigel Kennedy has a jazz CD coming out - was in the latest BBC music mag. No idea how good it is.

Tried to get to the Cork Jazz Fest but ran away at the price of train tickets (Dubliner). ohmy.gif It was also on in term time. Irish Times did a thing on it didn't they? From what I remember they were complimentary, which made it the worse for me.
