Suddenly this get into my mind.

Please list down your most favourite piano piece here. It can be a quite famous piece, but i also prefer those pieces which are not not known by many of us. Any suggestions here??

Nice pieces can be very easy to play or maybe very complicated. It depends on you...

Listening to Emperor Piano Concerto. The piano parts are very lively. Nice! Thanks!

I agree with Canon in D... a great piece. I also really like Pavane by Faure- does that count?- as well as:

Mozart- Sonata No. 11
Beethoven- Moonlight Sonata (although I'd like it more if it weren't on just about every piano compilation CD around).
Mussorgsky- Reverie
& most of Mendelssohn's work (that old genius!)

However, most of my favourite pieces are orchestral...
dennisssj
ermm..Besides, i love my pieces too. 2005-2006 ABRSM grade 8 pieces, i played Sonata in D by Scarlatti, Sonata in C by Mozart and Impromptu by Arensky. Those three have their own characteristics!

What about doing a poll once you have a few answers for ideas as to what to include? I'd find it very hard to just pick something out of the blue, and my favourites change on a regular basis, but at the minute I'd say Chopin's Grande Valse Brillante, J.S. Bach's Italian Concerto, Chopin's Nocturne in C# minor, Haydn's sonata in D (can't remember the number, but I'll look it up if you're keen!), Mendelssohn's Duetto, the third movement of Beethoven's Moonlight sonata, the slow movement of Beethoven's Pathetique....etc, etc, etc...... blink.gif
andante_in_c
Ravel Menuet Antique, Shostakovich Prelude and Fugue No 7 in A, Bach P+F in B minor (WTCII), I've Got Rhythm by Gershwin.
pianoman84

Ok... I had a few days to really think about this thread as I do have quite a lot of favourite pieces. Whatever the pieces i may be learning, there are a few which I come back to regularly, so I guess these could be my favourite piano works ...

JSBach - P & F book 2 - E major, F# minor, B major, B minor & Italian Concerto
Mozart - D minor Concerto
Beethoven - 4th Concerto
Chopin - 2nd Ballade
Rachmaninov - G# minor Prelude

Take a look at John Field's Nocturnes. I keep trying to flog these here, but nobody ever seems to take me up on it! As you probably know, JF was a fore-runner of Chopin and that's where Chopin got the "nocturne" idea from. They are beautiful pieces of music, and I'm sure you'd like them, as you seem to like similar things to me!
dennisssj
I'll try to listen to the recordings in naxos.com 1st to see how much I would agree with you guys! Maybe later I'll post to request the sheet music that I think I would like to play! Thanks for your opinions. Others, keep on posting your favourites!

The Field does it for me, in particular I love No 4 in A... so lovely to play. Also ( bit hackneyed I suppose, but the slow movement always brings tears to my eyes) the Grieg Piano Concerto. And loads of Mozart, too much to list....
La_Chopiniste_
Chopin - Ah.. Many!

Beethoven: Emperor concerto

Gershwin : Rhapsody in Blue

Rachmaninov: Piano concerto No 2

Liszt: Liebestraum

I really love the Chopin Waltz in E minor. Its such a wonderful piece, I played it for my grade 8 years ago.

Yes that is a nice piece.

Famous pieces I like...I also like Liszt's Liebestraum No. 3 and his Sonata in B Minor, Chopin's Nocturne in Eb...

I also really like Beethoven's Sonata Op. 27, No. 2 (aka Moonlight), esp. the 3rd movement.
possom
My immediate favourites are:-

Chopin Ballade no. 1
Rachmaninov Concerto no.2
Beethoven's Appassionata Sonata

Could think of loads more but those ones stand out for me.
PiAnO~C.Bechstein~PiAnO
Here are a few alot of my favourite peices:

Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition (especially Ballet of the Unhatched Chicks, Limoges, Baba Yaga and
the Great Gate at Kiev) I can only play Baba Yaga though sad.gif

Rimsky Korsakov - Flight of the Bumble Bee - great fun to listen to the different versions and even more fun
to play!

Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse, Reflections Dans L'eau and Clair de la Lune. L'isle Joyuese is so difficult i cant get
my fingers round it.

Ravel - Ravel, Ravel, Ravel... Just daydreaming there thinking about the lovely sounds of Jeux D'eau and
Gaspard de la Nuit. I'm tryin to learn Jeux D'eau but unfortunately it gets rather difficult after the
first page dry.gif

Beethoven - How can you not love Beethoven! I love all of his Sonatas especially the Moonlight and
Pathetique.

Mozart - Rondo Alla Turca is a wonderful peice and also Sonata Facile (K545 1st movement in C major)

Chopin - I love Chopin! He has such passionate music. His Nocturnes are wonderful. And i love Fantasie
Impromptu. And his etudes are great. Especially Revolutionary Etude Op10 No. 12. And Etude
Op. 10 No. 8 is lovely. Here is a link to Elena Kuschnerova playing Etude Op 10 No 8 at the
Tchaikovsky Competition, what a great pianist!

Prokofiev - He is currenty one of my favourite composers. I absolutely love the strange qualities found in lots
of his music, anyone agree? I learned the (2007-2008) grade 8 Prokofiev peice - C3 - Gavotte,
Cinderella Suite, its so spectacular. I also like Prokofiev's Toccata in D minor, prelude in C major
(with glissandos!!!) and of course his best, Dance of the Kinghts.

Einaudi - A wonderful composer. He produces such soothing, relxing music that is very nice to play and listen
to. I Giorni, Le Onde, Samba and Inizio are my favourites from him.

Liszt - La Campanella, Hungarian Rhapsody nos. 2 and 6. and his transcendental etudes.

Michael Nyman - The Heart Asks Pleasure First, bliss rolleyes.gif from the film the Piano

Joplin - Maple Leaf Rag, The entertainer are such good fun peices.

And even more that i won't bother writing down in danger of you falling asleep in boredom. I tend to end up writing huge posts on the forums, i can't help it ph34r.gif I think that should cover the main peices i like. As you can see i'm a big fan on piano music biggrin.gif Anyway thats enough from me.
