HELP!

All my emails keep getting sent to me over and over again. Every 5 minutes without fail. I'm swamped with them. Several hundred now at a time, they just keep multiplying. I'm panicking!!!

Has anybody any idea what's going on, or how to stop it????

It's an iBook G4 laptop. Are there any Mac experts out there??? Or anyone else with any ideas???

PLEASE!

And in the meantime, please don't send me an email anyone, but I think I'm OK with PM and Skype.

No problems from this Mac user, and it's not one I've heard of before. I get shedloads of spam, but mercifully each one only arrives once.

Are you sure the problem's with your computer rather than your ISP, or with the transfer from your ISP onto your machine?

We've had this happen (but not on a Mac).

It turned out to be a very large email stuck in the server's postbox. When your computer looks for email it takes all that's there in a group and stops when it's got the number of emails it expected. If one is stuck then the first ones get through and then it jams. Try again and the same thing happens.

If it's that which is causing the problem then you have to contact your internet provider to have your mailbox emptied. We now have a password to go to our box online - useful if you're away and you want to check emails - although once you look at things online then they're gone forever and if you're on a foreign pc far from home then that might not be what you want.

I guess that phoning your IP is the only answer. Luckily we're with Zen and a real person answers within three rings and deals with the problem promptly.

What a nightmare ohmy.gif I've had a horrible evening!

It happened when I tried to delete the emails I didn't want. Instead of deleting them, it sent them again, and then kept re-sending them. And when they came in, they sorted themselves into date order so they were all mixed up with emails that I wanted to keep. Anyway in-between the 5-minute surges, I managed to keep clearing some away and eventually got the backlog down so that fewer and fewer were coming back. And eventually I managed to file off all the ones I wanted to keep so then it became easier to delete the rogue ones. I think it's now clean.

I discovered that a problem with duplicated messages can arise with Macs that use 10.2.8 or earlier, but mine's 10.4.8 so I don't think it can be the same problem. As you both said, it might be a problem with the server. I'm with Zen as well as it happens, and I've never had a problem before so I've never had to call them. Nice to know you can get through to somebody if you need to though.

I've no idea why it happened but it seems to be all right now ....

I feel exhausted. I'm going to bed.

Hope I've not missed anything on the forums.

Thanks both of you for your advice. smile.gif

Edit: Still got a problem. Tried to shut down and Mail wouldn't let me. Can't Quit Mail either. I'm quitting though. I've had enough for one night....
