Hi,

My name is Martin and I am a bandmaster for a scout group band. Currently in our band we have three bugles which seem to be cavalry bugles (ie those long ones rather that the short type bugles). I have a diffculty in mapping the five notes of these bugles to a Bflat bugle or Trumpet.

Does anyone maybe know in which key such bugles play? It seems that the notes the bugle does relative to a Bflat trumpet are C F A C or something of the sort.

Alternative can someone guide me on where I can find some sheet music written for bugles.

Thank you

Martin

I played a 'long' bugle once (don't know what the real term is!) and the harmonics are at really weird intervals.

So I'm no help really. LOL. I have a standard Bb (that has been pushed a semitone sharp somehow). You can usually find some in google, searching 'bugle music'.

Have a google! smile.gif

I'm afraid I do not know the key of a bugle, but you may find these websites useful:

http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/enter.html?s...=a&k=c02g70

http://bands.army.mil/

http://www.anzacday.org.au/miscellaneous/sheetmusic.html

http://www.musicroom.com/?kbid=1143

http://freemusiclibrary.co.uk/

All these website can provide sheet music for a variety of brass instruments, including the bugle.

This website may provide some useful imformation(It is a forum for brass players):

Aaah this website tells you the key:

Good Luck with your bugle playing!!!!!

hi there,
i used to play in an army corps of drums. it depends wheather you are using calvary or funfare trumpets, ie the long one. calvary trumpets are usually in Eb (or at least the ones we had ). funfare and standard (short bugles) are in Bb. because the different bigles are pitched differently you cant play the same notes ie while the basic notes on a Bb bugle would be c,g,c,e,g,c . Eb bugles would be a fourth below the notes played by Bb bugles. if a Bb (short bugle) plays c Eb(long bugles) play g to sound the same. ie a c on a Bb bugle is a g on an Eb bugle.

hope it makes sense
