Matt, is that training to become a paramedic?
If it's something entirely different then forgive my ignorance and ignore me!!
No you're right Sarah! On completion of the course I'd be a qualified paramedic. The degree is the 'fast' route, as it would only take me 3 years to finish training and get registered.

But if I don't get a place on the course then I'm still gonna become a paramedic, but by the 'slow' route. Will have to start as a transport assistant (driving old ladies to their appointments in a minibus), then progress to ambulance technician, and eventually paramedic. Same result in the end, it'd just take about 8 years instead of 3.
I think the course my friend did must've been something different again. I only know about it 2nd hand though. As far as I recall her degree was in marine biology - I don't know if maybe that gave her some of the science she may have needed?!

Good on you for knowing what you want to do, though, it's definitely a job I have the utmost respect for you going for - I hope you get your place biggrin.gif

I'd be happy at either Durham/Bristol/Sheffield, but if I were to get a BBB offer from Durham (unlikely) then I would probably put that as my firm, because I don't think I'd be able to meet my ABB Bristol offer. I think my favourites are Bristol/Durham and then Sheffield comes under.

To study Music the typical offer is either ABC or BBB (last time I checked UCAS)

Why are the history offers so high anyway? I don't know many people who want to do History, but it seems to be a very competitive subject! ohmy.gif

Unfortunately, it is very competitive sad.gif sad.gif

yeah i checked out a few courses but this one seemed to match my interests the most...and my choices were a little limited by my lack of music qualifications...still I'm not there yet but hopefully the theory test will be all good.

Thanks

I am sure the forums can help you if you get any problems with Grade 5 theory.

Where else did you apply?
Sam_BFC
Nowhere...a real eggs in one basket kinda thing

It is competitive, was when I was doing UCAS etc a decade ago, too. I knew some people who applied to do "History and..." in the hopes of being a little unusual and standing out from the crowd.

do you need to apply through ucas if you want to do a masters or PhD??? I'd love to have people call me Dr Hartley some day... *Dreams*

I don't think you do, I think you have to contant the uni directly. But, I'm not 100% sure.

Heyyy :]
I'm not applying this year, but how competitive is it to get into a music college?
Say, RAM, RNCM,RWCMD, Guildhall, Trinity, Birmingham conservatoire?
What A level marks have you got to get? [in all subjects]
Just wondering.

For music college it is always going to be competitive, and extra competitive on things like piano, violin and flute.

I am sure you'd probably be able to find statistics of number of places to applicants on their websites.

Generally, conservatives want lowish grades in A Levels, you definitely don't need straight As.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

From someone who has auditioned this year and got into all except RAM (didn't apply to Trinity or B'ham), conservatoire entry is very competitive (depending on the instrument). Entry is decided almost completely on how you perform at audition and possibly interview.

Most places require A Level Music (usually A or cool.gif and one other A Level at Grade E. However, this is quite flexible. A Levels are not as important as talent and commitment.

I applied for music at
- SOuthampton
- Bath Spa
- Surrey
- Kingston
-Cardiff
- Royal Holloway

Got all my offers back but i really love bath spa so i put that as my firm! Did apply to RWCMD but changed my mind as i thought im not anywhere near good enough for that! But i love bath too much as well!
Annetta
I agree magic flute, bath spa was nice but to me it wasn't as nice as Roehampton or Cardiff!

Had a conditional offer from Roehampton and had an audition for Canterbury on Wednesday and said that I am a very likely student to get a place, not that I thought much of Canterbury...it is 4th out of the 4 universities that I have applied for!

I am stull deciding whether I like Cardiff or Roehamton best so I am going back to Cardiff for an open day on 25th April !
