Deborah
There were emotional scenes at Monsalvat yesterday evening following the announcement that Hamster had fallen asleep at the wheel.

Hamster, 2, had been born in Valhalla, where he lived for all of his life. He began his apprenticeship at a local pet shop before transferring to private ownership. During his professional career he excelled in many areas of hamster life, notably in eating sunflower seeds, chewing cardboard tubes and biting visitors' fingers. He suffered a brief illness during early summer 2006, pulling through but remaining nearly bald for the rest of his life. He never married.

The estate comprises PinkGables House and surrounding cage and an exercise ball, which will pass to his family.

The family have requested that in lieu of flowers, donations are sent to The Heldenklarinettistin's Peter Eaton Appeal c/o Deborah.

The funeral has taken place.

How very sad Deborah, but he had a good life with a loving family and he lived to a ripe old age in hamster terms. Sorry that I missed his funeral.

Sorry to hear of your loss! It's that time of year I'm afraid, we had a similar experience 2 weeks ago when little Ruby went to heaven.

How old was hamster 2? Did he have a good innings? I'm sure he was well cared for. Unfortunately Hamsters only have a fleeting life on this planet. But it is always sad when a cherished pet passes away.

She was turned 2 a very pretty little thing (white with red eyes). She had a very good life and lasted far longer than her brothers and sisters (we knew all the family). Her favourite things were swinging in the toilet roll tube tunnel and driving her Taxi.

She is sadly missed by all the family, her sunny nature and friendly disposition will be hard to replace. She has also had a dignified funeral.

Was Hamster known simply as "Hamster"?
Deborah
2 was Hamster's age, not his number. I had a few hamsters as a child, but dead hamsters don't seem quite so traumatic now I've experienced relatives dying.

Hamster was his forum name; his real name was Nelson, because he had one red eye and one black eye. If my sister hadn't come round to dinner on the day he arrived at Monsalvat he would have gone through life answering to Wotan.

I trust that the hysterics are due to the mock-serious obituary in post one, rather than laughing at people's tales of dead pets.
I_L, by and large, you can at least cuddle pets, but the one person I've ever seen kissing a train was seriously disturbed (he's also been banned from all bus preservation groups for feeding a bus with birthday cake. The cake was real, and it was fed into the bus's fuel tank!).

So sorry to hear your sad news. sad.gif Will you adopt another hamster?

Probably, although I'll leave it until after Christmas to see if I can get one cheaply in the January sales.

I_L I am sitting next to a very beautiful cat that, about five years ago was hit by a car. We were destraut. We thought we had lost him. He limped home and hid, and when we found him it was very clear that he has serious injuries to his fromt left paw. After he was made comfortable by the vet, he was allowed to return home prior to surgery the next day. - The result he had to have a toe amputated due to a serious crush fracture.

However given what we saw, we were half expecting to see dead cat, or one with a serious head injury.

So Deborah, Hamster 2, or should I say Nelson obviously had good life. Your decision to wait before getting another hamster is a good one. And although you are Wagner crazy, promise me you'll not call the next one Wotan!

You can't keep two hamsters together not even sisters or brothers.
You can with the russian ones.

Oh your poor cousin. Isn't it awful when people suffer so many losses so close together. My heart goes out to her. sad.gif

Sbhoa, is that because the russian ones busy themselves by playing chess with each other, so they don't have time to fight? biggrin.gif

Thanks. The only good that seems to have come fomr it is that now I feel much closer to her. I have no siblings and she only has 2 older brothers so after spending quite a while with her this summer it almost feels like we're sisters. Only thing is she lives up in Sheffield sad.gif

Sorry to hear of your loss, Deborah. Hope you get another pet companion after Christmas. (The sales often start before Christmas these days).

I hope it's nothing to do with the time of year. Our hamster Fingal felt poorly earlier this week and I had visions of a funeral and 2 unhappy children. However, a dose of cod liver oil on bread and some peanuts seem to have done the trick this time.

We always seem to have our Hamsters pass over in Winter. I thought it was maybe due to the changing temps in the house.
