*sidles into Viva Piano from the Viva Organ crowd* I've been given a book of Haydn piano trios from my music teacher at school to 'show to my teacher and decide for myself' on. But I don't actually have a piano teacher at the moment, since I 'traded in' piano for organ when I started that.

Anyway I've had a look at all the ones in the volume I have and I quite like No. 16 - I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how difficult this would be regarded as? I mean for AS, how much credit would I get for playing it?

Obviously it also depends on how well you play the piece! But I would like to know before I finally decide. smile.gif

I'm a non expert here, but my son performed the last bit of no 7 in his piano trio last year. The piano part for that sounded quite challenging - well it all does to me, but knowing the pianist who played it I'd guess it was between grade 6 and 8 standard. I'm not sure that will help you at all unless you have both in your book and can compare difficulties and know what grade level is expected for AS.

I think the expected standard for AS level is around grade 5 or 6.

Yep, you'd be right. No more than grade 6 is needed to achieve an A in performance at AS level, however this changes at A2.

Oh OK, so I don't need to play anything particularly difficult, as long as it's performed well. That's good to hear. I think the one I've chosen is probably 5/6 standard ish.

Next year will be easier in a way because you perform a solo recital so I can do a piece I'm already learning rather than having to learn a separate one for ensemble performance which I have to do this year.

Thanks smile.gif
