Last night was my Choral Society Concert, and I got to sing with an orchestra for the first time. smile.gif

It was great! It's lovely to sing as part of a choir anyway, but with the orchestra as well it just made it so special. And our soloists were fabulous, so so talented. All in all a wonderful evening.

Ooo lucky you. Amazing isn't it? The first time I sang with full orchestra was when I was at uni - sadly I have not had an opportunity to do so since. sad.gif Any plans for your next opportunity?

Hey lucky you!! I love singing in a chior, the bigger the better, and if you have an orchestra with you as well, it's just amazing.

Sunds like a great evening Amber. biggrin.gif

It was so much fun.

The next occasion will be in March when we perform at our local theatre, when the choir we have links with in Germany will be coming over to sing with us. I think it's an even bigger orchestra then. Can't wait!!!

Providing it doesn't clash with your next concert, you're welcome to come to Valhalla on 24th March 2007, when Valhalla Choral Society are having a come-and-sing Mozart Coronation Mass and a few other smaller works. Full orchestra, full audience (I hope!), ace soloists - what more could a soprano want?

What did you sing, and what are you singing in March?

We do a piece with an orchestra once a year. We're a fairly big choir (about 60-70 people performing usually) so together with the orchestra, there's usually more people on stage than in the audience! But it is wonderful fun - it's such a full rich sound, voices mixing with orchestra, isn't it?

I have to say though, I find it quite hard work, and I have to watch a tendency to oversing. It's just so much *louder* than singing just with a piano!

What did you sing, Amber? We just had our choir and orchestra concert, and did Puccini's Messa di Gloria and the Mozart Solemn Vespers. It was great!

We sang Mozart's Mass in C Minor, also the Ave Verum. The Mass is a big, big sing, especially for the soprano parts. I think maybe Mozart forgot that singers need to breathe sometimes. It was a bit like "OK, take a deep breath coz it's got to last you through the next 80 minutes!"

In March it will be the Brahms Requiem and, unfortunately Deborah, it is the exact same day as your Valhalla concert . sad.gif Bother. That would have been nice, and as you know, Valhalla's not too far away from me. Hope all goes well for this coming Saturday by the way.

I love Ave Verum! The Brahms is lovely too - how lucky you are, Amber!

Which Ave Verum? I've had to sing two - one was Mozart I think and I can't remember the other composer - in the same concert... more than a little confuzzling!!
