Im finding some bars of this piece very tough and challenging! And the rhythm is so hard. Im going veryyy slowly at the moment.

But.. what a lovely piece this is! Has anyone else done this? It's so expressive smile.gif Any thoughts on what grade this is, roughly?
possom
It's a lovely piece, I played it years ago smile.gif I would say it's roughly grade 8, I had passed grade 8 when I attempted it anyway.
tiger_vio
Thanks smile.gif I expected it was around g8.
Im finding one bar particularly hard, near the beginning on the front page. Theres like a run in the left hand and its so hard to not slow down and keep the rhythm of the right hand! gah, ive never had as many problems as i have with it, but I still love it.
crazy cow
If it's the piece I'm thinking of (with the really crazy right hand part?), I've had a go at the first few pages! It's really gorgeous, but very hard and it hurts! I would love to learn it properly one day, once I'm a bit better at playing! tongue.gif
Oddball
It's technically evil! But yes, it has a really nice sound.

Is this the ascending F melodic minor scale, starting and finishing on C, with seven semiquavers in the time of eight? If you try to fit each note into what the right hand is doing you've going to have a nosebleed. Keep the pulse going and aim to hit the top C one crotchet after you've started on the lower one. As long as the pulse is rigid it will take only a few minutes of trial and error before you've got the right tempo for the septuplet run. If the pulse isn't rigid you'll still be working on it when the sun explodes.
fsharpminor
For anyone who loves this piece, but cannot manage the original version, there is a simplified version in Peters Edition No 2870a, though its still probably Grade 6 -7 standard. I have been playing this since I was about 12, and never subsequently got a copy of the full version ! Cheat! tongue.gif

Yep thats the one! So you think I should just aim to hit the low & top C for now and not any other part of the run? blink.gif Or just aim to hit both and hope I can fit the other ones in the middle? Ive been at least 6 hours trying to do this haha.
Should I just practice with doing the low and top C first without any other notes? If so, do I then introduce the other ones 1 at a time? ohmy.gif

I meant doing the whole run in the time it takes the piece to get one from crotchet to the next. If you've spent six unsuccessful hours on this I think you need to relax! Don't force it.

You could try just playing the Cs in time, and in fact maybe play left hand only starting from the bar before the one we're talking about, so you know exactly when the second C happens. Then fit the run into that.

Introducing the other notes one at a time: no. The very thought of it has made me go all dizzy.
