When you tune your instrument, do you use and electronic tuner, or do you use your ear. My teachers use their ears, however I find this extremely difficult, and have to use a tuner....
What do you do???

I always tune by ear. I used to find this virtually impossible, but with time it gets better. It helps to know that you are in tune with the rest of the orchestra, rather than what your tuner tells you is in tune, the two can differ quite a lot

I tune my violin by ear, and work out my embouchere for oboe by playing a C major scale lol

The tuning of oboes in our orchestra is.... interesting, but we still all tune to them!

I always tune my instruments myself, and will tune my trombone slightly sharp so that by the time it has warmed up it will be in tune. Usually I will use a piano just as a quick reference

When playing alone, I tune by ear. Otherwise, I tune to the other members of whatever ensemble I'm playing with.
