My girls took their Grade2 Piano at the end of last week (no result yet- although I hear they are turning them round quick at the moment).

Could anyone recommend a couple of good books between Grade 2 and 3 that they can use to broaden their horizons a bit? Need more than 1 cos whilst they will share they each need something for Keyboard Club at School.

Thanks!

Have you tried the Microjazz books?

They might enjoy The Easiest Book of Christmas Carols book two by Eleanor Franklin-Pike. This book will be useful for recorders, flutes and guitar chord players too. Some lesser known carols in it too, and very playable.

That sounds like a good idea!

Easy Jazzin' About by Pamela Wedgwood?

Have a look at Jazz Rags and Blues by Martha Mier - in four books.

I guess book 2 (possibly book 3, only just got hold of a copy of 3) might be about the right level - book one is probably nearer grade one.
Any of my pupils I've given these books to have loved them - all thanks to a recommendation on this forum.

If they were companies I'd buy shares in Norton and Wedgwood!

Think I'll have to hit the internet for some Music shopping again! Before my Husband finds out how much I've spent recently laugh.gif laugh.gif . His money not mine blink.gif

Thanks everyone any suggestions that aren't Jazzy cos the girls are getting loads of Jazz books for Christmas and I bet the place we buy them from thinks we're obsessed! ph34r.gif

For more 'classical' options what about Classics to Moderns, A Keyboard anthology, Short (and/or More) Romantic Pieces or A romantic Sketchbook if there are any of these they are not already using in their lessons.

This thread may give you some ideas smile.gif.

Burgmuller - Progressive Studies op.100 (they are lovely pieces even though the book is called Studies)
Kabalevsky - Children's pieces op.27 (there are 30 pieces in all and I love every one of them!)
JSBach - Anna Magdalena's Notebook (I like to introduce these Baroque style pieces early...)

The pieces in above books are from about Grade 2 to Grade 5, so you could keep coming back from time to time....

Piano Times Classics (2 books - one pink and one blue book) are a good addition. My pupils really enjoy these books. They have lots of well known tunes in them - great books smile.gif
