Two pupils I have in the secondary school are playing the Beethoven Sonata Allegro movement from Concert Repertoire for grade 5 flute. Does anyone know what this was originally for? Was it violin, piano, something else. I don't think it is for flute, and it does say 'arranged by'. I have searched the Naxos catalogue with the opus number but had no luck. As an aside does anyone have other favourites in this album? I told them they should always look beyond exam lists, especially as their exam pieces are going well. I suggested they could try After Hours by Wedgwood as well.

As well as this, they are doing Whistling Song for list B, and decided against the Rhumba for list C. Any favourites in list C, anyone?

A surprisingly large number have chosen the Damase study. The other favourite (apart from the Rumba) is the Rae 'Ringing the changes', but I always make sure I demonstrate the middle section at a fast tempo so they know what they're letting themselves in for. I then teach the middle section first, and don't let them look at the outside sections until there's a chance they can play all three at the same speed. wink.gif

Favourites for list C:

-Study 44 (Rumba) from the 76 graded studies book. Not too taxing once you get the hang of the rythems and get your fingers round the notes, but a really fun piece to play!!

i did rumba for grade 5 and i think it is too easy for the grade
