the shy pianist
Hey everyone!

Can you all share your practice and performing experiences with Bach's music huh.gif ?
indo
Bach music is challenging, as my teacher says it builds of theme or let say voice after voice (if you get what I mean biggrin.gif ) after them. my teacher shows me to underscore the theme in different colour for the right and left hand, so it shows you the different theme and you could catch the meaning of the piece (I do this for 2 and 3 part inventions).

Hope I am making sense laugh.gif and this helps you.

i was playing bach's 2-part inventions recently. the harder ones are really quite tedious to learn but lots of fun to play once u've mastered them:) lol...i used to think bach was really boring & all his stupid pieces were more or less the same *ducks at things thrown from bach-fans* lol. i still kinda think that *ducks* but they also can be fun and ...addctive lol. (seriously, they are!)

'voice after voice'

contrapuntal music. always make sure both voices are heard

the pieces during baroque time were pretty much written for church i think - im not sure bout this. so u cld guess, the peaceful ones - make 'em sound like they were being sung by the church choir and so on..

and the others, think about the harpsichord or the other thing called clavichord? imitate the sound like how the piece would have been played on them i suppose..

any others??

As with most Baroque / Classical music, rhetoric is quite important. Please refer to A Performer's Guide to Music of the Baroque Period.

I've been playing something from "The Art of Fugue" BWV 1080 lately. It's not very easy.

I wish that were the case. I can play Bach but I'm hopeless at any of the more modern stuff - love Clementi though
