hi!
for those of you who have taken grade 6 piano, can you tell me how it was like?

my teacher suggested skipping grade 5 piano and doing grade 6 piano

but im afraid that it may be too difficult as ive only been learning piano sice last oct

and i havent started aural yet

*is panicking as she needs these grade to get to music school * (last minute decision ehehehe)

are there any audios on the net which i can listen to grade 6 pieces?
Lucia
You can listen to them here.

Do you mean you started piano from scratch last October so that you have only been playing 9 months? That's quite some achievement to take Grade 5 let alone Grade 6 so soon.

That's fantastic then. I am sure that your teacher will guide you and you have already been told the website for the recordings. How is your sightreading after only 9 months of piano and your scales? If you can get good marks on the other parts of the exam there is just that little bit less pressure to have the pieces at a very high level. Have you taken any music exams before on another instrument? The ABRSM article on this website These Music Exams is well worth reading and is an excellent source of guidance
missfabflute
lol thanks but the prob is, yes, my sight reading and aural
aural i havent started ...eheheh due to some reasons.

But im more of a flute player not a pianist.

To tell you the truth, i can do sight reading but i end up playing soo slowly on the piano but my sight reading for flute is much much better.
and scales, pianowise, its better whereas flute is......* i am taking time to learn the scales*

lol
so i think thats what i have to really kill myself one; aural, scales and sight reading
thats why i dont want to take grade 6 piano!

and i havent taken any exams before...as i decided i didnt want to but now i do unsure.gif

It might be better to post this on the teachers' forum as you obviously need guidance. Have another chat with your teacher and be honest with him/her about your misgivings. Much better to go for a grade that you know you will achieve a good pass on than risk a fail.

Hi missfabflute Grade 6 in nine months is a lot to expect. ohmy.gif I know you need your exam passes to get into music college but could you not take a year off after school and before you go to college to give you time to catch up with your practical exams? unsure.gif You could be putting alot of pressure on yourself to go staight into Grade 6. Did you listen to the pieces and if so do you think you are capable of playing them? How are you finding learning all the scales? I'm doing Grade 6 scales a the moment and there are an awful lot to practice but I have had the advantage of playing the majority of them for two years now, I'm finding it is just a matter of speeding them up and getting them to flow nicely.
missfabflute
im not the one wanting to take grade 6 ....
my teacher is suggesting

but i know its going to be a bit difficult for me

but i cant take a year off...mum said im not allowed + ill be too old by the time i graduate unsure.gif
Lucia
Hi Missfabflute just a thought have you done your Grade 5 theory which you need to do Grade 6 piano.

I suppose if your teacher wants you to do Grade 6 she must think you will be ready in time. When will you be actually taking the exam?

PS If you take a year off you won't be too old. What difference does one year make in the average 80 year life span. blink.gif

sbhoa
Taking a year off from parents point of view could be to do with the expense. wink.gif
Lucia
You could well be right sbhoa but it is also a good opportunity to do some paid employment, not necessarily full time, and save some money for college. wink.gif
