I was wondering what you have all used, book wise, when moving beyond grade 5 level pieces, on violin. I am looking for perhaps a book that offers a nice collection of pieces that would give me a pleasant break from the graded material - perhaps something which is equivalent to 'Tunes You've Always Wanted to Play' for Piano, which is full lovely pieces! smile.gif

There's JB Accolay's Concerto, Polish Caprice and Nijun (is this correctly spelt?) but more specifically we use a nice collection of Kreisler Book 1 from the United States and you can also try the UK's ABRSM Book 3 of Baroque Violin Pieces. All of the above are good value for money since the pieces range all the way from G5 to G8. There is also a lovely collection of Shosti's pieces - Try Google. Much cheaper than to buy individual scores.

Not an album, but you could have a go at Dvoraks Sonatina Op100 in G, proabbly Grade 6-7. Its delightful - On the rare occasions my duaghetr and I get together we always play it finish with!

Thanks for the replies - the AB baroque book sounds quite interesting actually, I might put that on my Christmas list. smile.gif

This is really sweet. Our daughter played this lovely one for Jeremy Irons, etc, and she said he kissed her! biggrin.gif

A really nice collection is the Classical and Romantic Pieces, Book 4 by Watson Forbes which has short pieces by Haydn, Beethoven, Rimsky-Korsakov and Rachmaninoff. It is rated grades V-VI but comes up in exams at VI-VII.
