Anyone in a choir?

i used to be in the school choir but then i left because i had too many other music activities to do.

+ i decided that i was more of an intrumentalist in orchestrA biggrin.gif

I'm in a chamber choir, which doesn't sing choiry stuff very often. We sang a "sister act" medley and some gospel stuff. There was 12 of us, but now coz people have left to go to Uni, there's only 8. I'm also in a senior choir, and we sing S.A.T.B stuff there.
You can be a choir person and a orchestra person! The only things I don't do at school are brass group and junior choir!
Katet
yeah, am in lots of choirs, including my local church choir, and lots of orchestras like county youth and Carlisle and orchestra and school ones.

I'm in a local choir, it's really enjoyable and it also helps with my aural. tongue.gif

I've been in one or two choirs, but prefer running them

i'm in 2 choirs in school...and recently i've passed my grade 8 singing with merit.... but there's always problems on reading music and other stufff....as they are not professionals...

I am part of both many orchestras (Violin) and choirs, and i definately know that you can be into both!!! I am living proof!!! I am part of my local youth symphony orchestra and chamber group, as well as the national youth choir, county youth choir and local cathedral choir. Both singing and playing are lots of fun, and i take exams in each.

I have to agree with liebe_klavier there, as although our school doesnt have a formal choir, when we form one for special occasions it s often very frustrating that others cannot read the music. I know that sounds really snobbish, but its how i feel.
liebe_klavier
i wished i could be in an orchestra...but i could only sing, play the piano and organ...absolutely no use in orchestra... sad.gif
missfabflute
if you can play they organ, shurely you can ply the keyboard in orchestra?
cecilia
orchestras don't normally include keyboards
that's what liebe_klavier is talking about laugh.gif

I'm in both school choirs, even though I shouldn't techniquely be seeing as I'm too old for junior choir, but I really enjoy it!!! Problem is I can't really sing! slight set back!!!!!
I never bother reading the music that much in choir, once I've sung something a few times then I tend to get to know the tune and words even in 4 part harmonies (senior choir). in junior choir we don't use the music at all, just learn the words!!!

Luv me

laugh.gif I'm in a gospel choir and my county choir and next year, at school, I am running my own.
liebe_klavier
that's great

I used to be in my local church choir, and then I stopped, and now I can't, I now sound like a cat with a sore throat when I try to sing, so I stick to orchestras, I'm in the Brighton Youth Orchestra, but my school doesn't have an orchestra mad.gif
Katet
it is annoying when all the staff who cant read music are there wailling away at senoir choir! the altos have to have the part played to them almost every week because they cant remember it from one week to the next! now im a snob to! but altos one day will rule the world.... (anyone been to Morland choristers camp?!?!?) ALTO WORLD DOMINATION!

Why are all the solos ALWAYS Sopranos? It's so unfair, we should be given a chance to shine!!!
Emma C
They are not always.....

I bought a wonderful CD the other day of airas from Theodora and Serse. Saw Theodora last November performed by Glyndebourne Touring in Plymouth - very long but wonderful arias by one of the leads Irene, an alto!

CD is great too - all of it alto recitatives and arias....
liebe_klavier
to be honest....i think there are more arias written for parts lower than soprano.... also...consider some operas...second soprano takes the leading character....some more important characters are also sung by altos..
cellogirlie
im in 3 choirs and 2 orchestras.....college girl's choir, college SATB, County Youth Choir, and the LSSO and the college orchestra. and the county strings group too. you can do orchestra and choir!
but it does really annoy me when other people cant read the music when singing. i am an alto but in my youth choir i am the only alto who knows what they are doing, the rest are little excuses for altos with sieve-like memories!

They do, but I think alto is more interesting to sing. Not interesting as in the part is always interesting, coz it's not sometimes, but interesting as in its different from the tune.....If that makes sense!!
liebe_klavier
i agree
