Thanks hillyb. What I shall do in that case is see who we've got coming and what they're playing, and I'll choose an instrument for you to play based on that. It'll also depend on the piece I eventually choose. smile.gif

Hi Barry,

That's great. Just let me know and I'll do my best to oblige.

It couldn't encorporate an alto flute could it?

I could incorporate an alto flute into it if someone's happy to play it!

You think I wouldn't be tongue.gif

In all seriousness Nicki, if there was an alto flute part, would you prefer to play that rather than the standard flute part (subject to hillyb's permission of course smile.gif )?

Nicki,

Permission granted!!

Did wonder what to put in the box for 'instrument to play in grand ensemble'.
Nicki suggested 'arms' - so that's what I put... laugh.gif

I've filled in my form for Leicester, and it'll be in the post tomorrow. I hope YAP comes, because I have an *ahem* interesting accompaniment for my piece! tongue.gif

As I mentioned in the Adult Learners' thread, katyjay has both my forms. smile.gif Both of them have large tba sections, though. Could we get four flautists together for a quartet at Leicester? I've got lots of good arrangements for four flutes. smile.gif

No, it won't be. Most of the quartets I buy are around Grade 6 in standard - that's the best level for my group at the college: challenging enough but not needing lots of practice. smile.gif

I have some 'tba' sections too.

Including which of the six movements of the piece I've picked I'm going to play for my solo. And what we are doing for the finale - I've got to cram an alto flute into that somewhere! biggrin.gif

Cambridge will have an Organ available ( a nice one to boot) and it sounds like KAtyjay and Nicki-Flute have put in a lot of work getting this one off the ground.

Finding venues and putting work into these things takes time and effort.

I'll check the diary and see if I can make it to this one.

Offers Solo Soprano Sop 1 for choir (can sing sop 2 but have too many good top notes), Descant, treble or Tenor recorders for Recorder consort, and Cor Anglais for final ensemble.

Roll on Leicester, good luck and have a great time organising this one. I'm not going to carp at your venue, it sounds great (especially as I don't do stairs very well and its on the ground floor.)

I hope you're able to come jod - I will ensure there's a cor anglais part for you in the grand ensemble if you're there. I think the cor anglais is a beautiful-sounding instrument.

I'm pleased to say that the flute quartet now has three members (nicki, hillyb and me) and has a slot booked. Any other flautists hoping to come to Leicester who would like to play in the quartet (ideally Grade 6+), please pm. If there are lots of us, we could double up some or all of the parts. smile.gif

I've enquired about the prices of train tickets from London to Leicester on Tuesday peak hours, and apparently there are a limited number of cheap (about £15 according to Midland Mainline) tickets available, but they do sell through fairly quickly.

Oh crikey, I'd completely forgotten that it will be peak-time travel ohmy.gif ! I've already sent in my form, but if the rail fare is hugely expensive I'll reluctantly have to give Leicester a miss. I've just checked the prices on Qjump - I could manage the £45-odd fare at a pinch, but not if it's £88!! How on earth can they justify such high fares for a relatively short journey ph34r.gif ? Did they say when the cheap tickets will be available?

Generally, up to 12 weeks-ish in advance Jo. That'll be around the 16th January (though I'd enquire/try to buy tickets before that). At the moment, they're selling tickets up to 31st March. smile.gif

I think, as far as I go, I may stay overnight in Leicester. If the cheapest fare available is £88 ohmy.gif, it'll be cheaper to stay overnight than travel in the peak!

Hello everyone.

I believe I've found a nice piece to use for the Leicester concert : the Radetsky March.

It had to fit a number of criteria. One of which was 'can I write an alto flute part for it'. biggrin.gif

I will be able to fit in any orchestral/wind band instruments and any recorders, but please can you PM me if you are intending to play:

* a recorder other than a descant
* a saxophone other than an alto or a tenor

as I'll need to write a part for you (which will be no problem). smile.gif

Thanks everyone! smile.gif

Yes...but I can't remember whether we had any music or were just buying. Thanks so much hillyb for bringing it. Would this be to perform or just do for fun? Do you want to stay chez moi again?

sarah-flute
I have those weird latin american ones.

Could maybe adapt one from somewhere else though.

Don't know whether for a performance or just for fun, has only just occurred to me today!

I would love to stay chez toi again please, dependent on trains etc smile.gif

Oh yes! If anything would be good to get something Grade 5ish, just so we can sight read it well, rather than getting bogged down in trying to play it.

Well....if we performed it, you could play the alto if you wish, Barry's writing me a part for alto flute in the Grand Ensemble, and it seems unfair to have an alto flutey available and you not play it.

There won't be any trains on Easter Monday will there? In that case, you'd have to come up Sat or Sun. Haven't asked parents but I am sure they'll say yes.

sarah-flute
I'll have to look at trains - my thought is either I'd come late Sunday, or I'd see if there were any trains on bank hol, or maybe come up on the day and then stay that night if that'd be OK? Might be nice not to have to rush off afterwards for once!! smile.gif
