Ladies and Gentlemen

Nicki-Flute and Katyjay are delighted to announce that the Easter Forums Event will take place at Leicester on 10th April 2007.

This is the Tuesday after the Bank Holiday - so a good day not to go back to work, but to recover from your Easter-Egg overdose by making music with your mates.

We have a fantastic venue lined up - the Fraser Noble concert hall at Leicester University.

This has significant advantages over last year's venue - it's on the ground floor, it's got a kitchen as well as a couple of practice rooms, it's a beautiful hall. There's a fair bit of parking either immediately outside or just across the road and, for the public-transport groups, it's half a mile nearer the station!

The website will be going up later this week or early next week, in a later link on this thread. I still have to finalise any ensemble activities, thanks to those who have volunteered to run them. If anyone else wants to run/provide music for an ensemble, please PM or e-mail me ASAP.

All profits from the event will be going to the Neonatal Unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

I'm afraid I'm still having premises challenges for the other early-year activities (South-East Adult Learners' event and the Recording Session) but will keep you updated as soon as those are sorted. Hopefully that'll be pretty soon.

Cheers

Katyjay

EDIT Here's the link!
I'll also put a post with it at the current end of the thread

Yay! Needless to say, I'm coming! biggrin.gif

PM coming your way katyjay.

Jolly good! I'll be there (as you already know!) smile.gif

I'm happy to provide a finale for Leicester - will let you all know of progress! biggrin.gif

Sorry!!! Three of us are in Wales and the other in New York! So I'll be getting rusty on Black Rock Sands!!
meerkat
Please count me in. I'll play in all the ensembles (probably not recorder unless you're desparate, since my recorder playing is of a quality that rhymes with height), sing in the choir, and I'd like to do a short solo singing and one of my instruments. I'm telling you all this cause I'm going away, and I don't want to get left out!!

If you want me to pay you before I go to allow all this to happen could you please pm me the amount and your paypal account?

Also, given that I'm on Leicester's doorstep, if you need any help, do let me know!
nicki_flute
I'm coming tongue.gif

(Meerkat, need to email you about meeting up!)

I'm very sorry I won't be able to come Katyjay - I've sent you a PM.

Hope it goes really well smile.gif

Is there an organ this year, or are you still discriminating against organists? wink.gif

There appeared to be a console and a set of pipes. But the console was deeply buried in junk, so I don't know how workable the machinery would be.

How about doing it at the De Montford hall instead? Lovely instrument... wub.gif

Only if you pay for the hire, I'm afraid.

What's the differential?

I have neither the time or inclination to find out. The venue is booked. End of story.

Sorry, I'm not having a go.. You just seemed to infer you knew the relative costs..

Yes you are having a go. Again. Whenever a concert event's mentioned all you can do is gripe and snipe.

If you want a venue with an organ - find one.

Last time I was involved in the planning of an event in a hall comparable size to DMH, the hire was in the many hundreds. That's not an option for a forum concert.
mrbouffant
I wasn't having a go, and it's a pity you seem to take any comment on the arrangements as a personal attack. That is a shame because you obviously bring a lot of value to the forums in the hard work you put in to these events.

/edit: KJ and I have sought to resolve our differences via PM, I would like to apologise for interrupting this thread and hope that, as with other concerts in the past, Leicester is a roaring success

Mr B if you wanted to organise a forum concert with an organ there are lots of venues here in Oxford with really nice organs. Some of them don't cost a lot to hire (due to the amount of competition). Here is a list in case you are interested. It would also be easy and cheap to get hold of a harpsichord if anyone was interested.

Obviously no rush, as we've got four months, but if people who are coming to Leicester can let me know what instrument they'd like to play in the finale, and what standard they are on said instrument, I'd be grateful (some of you I can make an educated guess on.)

Many thanks! smile.gif

I shouldn't be getting excited already - it's four months away! biggrin.gif

However, I am getting excited.....

Re. finale : my intention for this concert is to select something from my somewhat large piles of flexible ensemble pieces to use. I am more than willing to modify, and write out new parts to accommodate everyone who wishes to play in it. smile.gif

Hi Barry,

I'd be happy to play wahtever you need in the finale - flute, clarinet, alto or tenor sax. Whatever suits you.

I could incorporate an alto flute into it if someone's happy to play it!

Thanks hillyb. What I shall do in that case is see who we've got coming and what they're playing, and I'll choose an instrument for you to play based on that. It'll also depend on the piece I eventually choose. smile.gif

In all seriousness Nicki, if there was an alto flute part, would you prefer to play that rather than the standard flute part (subject to hillyb's permission of course smile.gif )?

Last year I was on a family holiday in the IOW when the forums concert was in Leicester - this year I am on band tour (admittedly, somewhere warm and sunny wink.gif )
